Sunderland AFC chair and majority shareholder Kyril Louis-Dreyfus was officially welcomed to Sunderland at a dinner hosted at The Stadium of Light .
Former SAFC chairman Sir Bob Murray , mayor of Sunderland Councillor Harry Trueman and the city ’ s three MPs – Sharon Hodgson , Julie Elliott and Bridget Phillipson – were among 90 guests at the dinner .
Other guests included Sunderland-born Jonathan Reynolds , Shadow Secretary of State for Business , Energy and Industrial Strategy , and leading members of Wearside ’ s business community .
The event was organised by former Sunderland City councillor Les Scott , and proceeds went to SAFC ’ s charity arm , the Foundation of Light .
BBC Look North ’ s Jeff Brown hosted the dinner and a Q & A with 1973 FA Cup winners Jimmy Montgomery and Ritchie Pitt , who sat alongside SAFC historian Rob Mason .
Entertainment was provided by Marty Longstaff , aka The Lake Poets and magaician Paul Lytton .
In a welcoming speech , coun Trueman talked about the important relationship between the city and the club , and using his ‘ authority ’ as mayor he declared Mr Louis- Dreyfus and his board ‘ honorary Mackems ’.
Les Scott added : “ Huge thanks to everyone who came along to welcome Kyril and support the Foundation .
“ It was a great night and I hope Kyril learned a lot about the city and what we ’ re about .”
