£ 840k investment to create new affordable homes
Apprentices engineering their future at tech firm

group of young engineers have been given an opportunity to start their careers thanks to a partnership between East Durham College and local employer Alexander Battery Technologies , based in Peterlee .
Alexander Battery Technologies has been working alongside East Durham College to promote its apprenticeship vacancies with a view to recruiting and growing future talent .

Alexander Battery Technologies worked with EDC Business Development Advisor Emma Norbury to develop the best route for recruiting the four apprentices for the company .
It was decided that 10 potential apprentices would get the opportunity to showcase their skills through a recruitment open event at the employer ’ s premises , because the roles require a level of specialism .
Scheme to enhance access in seaside town
Affordable new family homes will be built in Easington Colliery following a £ 864,000 investment by FW Capital , which manages the North East Property Fund .
Horden Grange Developments will use the funding to create eight stunning new homes on the eastern edge of Easington Colliery , near to the East Durham Coastline and Horden railway station . The houses will be released to the market by Kimmitt Roberts as the first phase of the Horden Grange development of 16 high-quality properties .
Run by local developer Gavin Hall , Horden Grange Developments previously completed a successful scheme in South Tyneside .

A scheme to deliver public space improvements in a County Durham seaside town has begun .
The final phase of the £ 1.6m Seaham Townscape Heritage Project , which is supported by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund , started in January .
Following its successful tender submission , Seymour Civil Engineering Contractors has been appointed to undertake the works on behalf of Durham County Council .
Phase one of the works will see the construction of new parking bays on and around Terrace Green in the town .
During this time , the car parking area around Terrace Green will be closed for approximately four weeks . Phase two of the works includes the removal of the car parking bays at North Terrace and the widening and re-paving of the footpath .
