A has swung open the doors to its third Sunderland facility , as it looks to help people get back into work .
Resources North-East – a training provider that has bases across the region – has opened a new Washington centre , from which it will deliver security and health and social care courses to support people to gain the skills they need to access employment .
The new 2,000sq ft hub will also become Resources North-East ’ s new head office , with the company ’ s management team and central office staff based out of Pennine House , which is close to the Galleries .
David Watson , managing director of the 32-year-old firm , chose to open its new Washington centre to expand its delivery capacity and tap into an underserved area .
He said : “ We are a business that is very much focused on delivering a small range of courses that are aligned to the region ’ s needs and that provide high-quality training focused on getting people ready for work , with the specific skills they need to flourish in their chosen industries .
“ Our agility as a relatively small provider means we are uniquely able to respond to the needs of industry .”
Resources North-East was set up in 1989 in Sunderland and now has facilities in Jarrow , Newcastle and Sunderland .
The provider employs 48 people and delivers training to some 240 students at any one time in areas spanning construction , hair and beauty , health and social care , forklift driving , and security .
Nissan is handing the region ’ s talent the keys to their future with the launch of its apprenticeship scheme this month .
The opportunity to join the Nissan team comes just months after the company and partners , including Envision AESC and Sunderland City Council , announced EV36Zero , a £ 1bn flagship EV Hub accelerating the company ’ s journey to carbon neutrality .
There are about 100 opportunities in areas including manufacturing , quality , maintenance and business administration , and the scheme will see successful applicants embark on a mixture of classroom based and on-the-job training .

Food packaging specialist launches fully recyclable concept
Engenera kickstarts bumper solar project for Nissan
A Wear food packaging specialist has launched a ground-breaking , fully recyclable packaging product suitable for all food applications .
The new concept – known as IMPAC-T – uses less plastic than equivalent PET packaging and can be typically used for dairy products such as yoghurt as well as an array of other produce .
A vertically integrated UK manufacturer , Washington-based PFF Group extrudes its own materials , and has now made a significant investment in new process technology to bring the lighter weight food grade packaging option to market .
North-East-based renewable energy company , Engenera Renewables Group , is gearing up to start work on the biggest project in its history after Nissan secured the green light to install an additional 20MW solar farm at its UK plant , the next milestone for its EV36Zero project and the company ’ s journey to carbon neutrality .
The new 20MW installation , for which planning permission has now been granted by Sunderland City Council , will double the amount of renewable electricity generated at Nissan ’ s Sunderland plant to 20 per cent of the plant ’ s needs – enough to build every 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAF sold in Europe .
An advanced manufacturing facility in Sunderland is on the market and set to return to its intended use after serving as the North-East ’ s Nightingale Hospital .
A Sunderland City Councilowned facility , Unit 6 , which stands on International Drive at the International Advanced Manufacturing Park – a development that spans Sunderland and South Tyneside – will be vacated by April , meaning it will be ready for a new occupier by summer .
The 124,976 sq ft detached facility was constructed to a high specification , with the original intention of housing training facilities to boost the region ’ s role in the electrification of the automotive industry .
