Sunderland firm to double in size , creating 160 new roles

A

customer communications business is set to create 160 new jobs in Sunderland .
Paragon Customer Communications ( PCC ) is at the leading edge of customer communications and workplace solutions , with the business ’ Pallion-based site offering outsourced mail processing .
And the company is targeting double-digit headcount growth , having seen business boom over the last 12 months .
PCC has won a number of significant new contracts that mean it will be bolstering its numbers , creating a range of operational roles including team leaders , supervisors and operations staff , as well IT and account management roles .
The company expects to employ 320 people at the Sunderland site by the end of 2022 , having won a significant new client
Remote e-HGV in 5G trial
A vehicle fitted with autonomous technology will be remotely test-driven in Sunderland as part of a government-funded trial .
The electric Terberg YT202 is a fully electric yard tractor , designed for moving trailers in distribution centres , transport depots and container terminals .
Retrofitted by StreetDrone with drive-by wire components and a myriad of sensors and wires , it ’ s the latest bit of kit in a £ 4.9m , government-funded 5G Connected and that will see it quickly scale to support its needs .

As well as providing vital training for other students within the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing , the centre will also benefit many of the region ’ s current surgeons and surgical trainees , providing vital facilities .
New business gives fiveyear-old best job ever
A five-year-old child has landed his dream job as a chief toy tester after becoming the first employee of the family business .
Jack Slee has been helping out with his parents ’ new toy-making business over the past 12 months , ensuring their products meet the most stringent of standards in order to receive his seal of approval .
Andrew and Kate Slee , from County Durham , launched the family-owned business , The Heart of Imagination , to bring to market sensory , sustainable toys that help improve the learning experience and make education more enjoyable .
Initially operating from their garden shed , the pair went on to officially launch their business and received support from the Sunderland-based North East Business and Innovation Centre , which played a key role in helping them understand the basics and getting the business off the ground .
