With the conclusion of the Flexible Learning Design program (FLDP) early this year, the Flexible Learning project came to an end, but not so the support for flexible learning provided by L&T Services.

Following on from FLDP, Eynesbury Foundation teachers engaged in a tailored FLDP-Foundation aimed at redesigning their Foundation units. This program was led by Program Coordinator Simon Tanti. Also developed was an FLDP-ELICOS program, with La Trobe College Australia (LTCA) ELICOS teachers, led by Jitender Gill (LTCA lecturer). Participants were highly engaged; readily experimenting with different educational technology tools, considering new applications for their pedagogical practice, and putting their new knowledge and skills into practice to develop student-centred, flexible learning experiences.

In November 2021, 35 teachers enrolled in Teaching in Flexible Learning (TiFL), a new TEN module created to supplement FLDP and build teaching capability in units that have been redesigned under the Flexible Learning model. TiFL was initially offered to teachers who had completed FLDP, to explore concurrent teaching strategies. Participants are taking advantage of the new module to further develop their teaching in the Flexible Learning context by discussing strategies and challenges, curating resources, and exploring frameworks and approaches to support and facilitate collaborative learning experiences across all modes.

The good news is that, from March 2022, TiFL will be available to all teaching staff as part of a four-module Flexible Learning package in TEN’s suite of online self-paced modules.

TEN-Flexible Learning modules are suitable for teachers who are new to Flexible Learning as well as those who completed FLDP last year and wish to review and extend their level of expertise. Like other TEN modules, each one takes approximately 3-5 hours to complete, depending on participants’ level of knowledge on the topics covered. Enrolment is via the TEN catalogue on the L&T website. Upon successful completion of the final task in each module, teachers will be awarded a Navitas digital badge. Furthermore, upon completion of the four modules, teachers will have the opportunity to submit a capstone task for review by L&T Services. Successful participants will be awarded with a Flexible Learning macro-badge.

TEN provides the opportunity to engage in professional development at a time that  best suits each participant. For more information, contact L&T Services (UPA) at [email protected].

The four new modules:

Introduction to Flexible Learning

Overview of components, principles, pedagogy, and theoretical underpinnings of Flexible Learning.

Designing for Equivalency and Versatility

Application of the equivalency and versatility principles in the Flexible Learning context across synchronous and asynchronous modes of study.

Creating Accessible Learning Opportunities

Analysis of strategies and processes to create accessible materials and activities across three learning modes.

Teaching in Flexible Learning (TiFL)

Application of methods and approaches to facilitate active and collaborative flexible learning experiences with a focus on concurrent teaching.

A Flexible Learning update - and introducing the Learning & Teaching (L&T) Services (UPA) newcomers: four Flexible Learning modules are being added to our Teaching Excellence at Navitas (TEN) suite of online modules.
