Once a teacher, always a teacher or so the saying goes. It certainly has worked for me!   I trained as a chemistry teacher following my D.Phil., moved on to several Headships, and then into consultancy. Just as my contract finished my wife, Hazel, retired from RGU and was snapped up by ICRGU to establish their Life Sciences and Pharmacy programmes.

ICRGU needed a second chemistry teacher and Hazel persuaded me to rekindle my love of teaching and apply for the post. That was 10 years ago and I’m still there! It has been a fantastic experience for me to get back into teaching in such a supportive, encouraging, well-lead and student-centred environment.

Over the years I have expanded my involvement to teach Numeric Techniques for Nursing, Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics. More recently I have had to face, as with all colleagues, the challenge of adapting to a blended learning approach.  I think this has a silver lining as we can now marry the best of what we used to do well with what modern technology enables us to do better.

I’m still very much enjoying the challenges and opportunities and help plan the annual UK L&T conference – and I’m still learning myself too! Thank you Hazel!
