WELCOME
Stuart Elford, Chief Executive, Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce
Welcome to the latest edition of Feature Focus.
There is a lot to be proud of when you look at the businesses that make up Staffordshire’ s economy. From established manufacturers and familyrun firms to ambitious start-ups and growing companies, businesses across the county continue to adapt, invest and look for new opportunities.
That is why I am particularly looking forward to Let’ s Do Business this year. With more than 1,000 delegates coming together at Uttoxeter Racecourse, it will be a great chance to see the range of businesses we have across the county and meet some of the people behind them.
I have heard plenty about Let’ s Do Business and the buzz around the event, so I’ m looking forward to experiencing it for myself for the first time. Events like this are a big part of what the Chamber is here to do. They give businesses the chance to meet new people, have conversations and make connections that can lead to new opportunities.
That same focus on supporting people is also behind Strive, our new eight-session programme for people in the early stages of their careers. We have recently launched the programme to help participants build their confidence, communication skills and leadership abilities, while learning from experienced mentors.
Since taking on the role of Chief Executive, I have had the opportunity to visit businesses across Staffordshire and hear directly about their experiences, challenges and plans for the future. Every visit has given me a different perspective on the local economy. Some businesses are building on decades of history, while others are entering new markets, investing in new ideas or taking their first steps.
It is that variety that makes Staffordshire’ s business community so interesting, and Let’ s Do Business is a great opportunity to see that for yourself.
Whether you are looking to meet a potential customer, find a new supplier, make new connections or simply see what other businesses are doing, I hope you make the most of the day. Sometimes a conversation you did not expect to have can turn into something much more valuable.
One thing that has stood out to me during my visits is the pride people have in what they have built. There is also a real willingness to share experiences, help each other and look for ways to work together.
That matters, particularly when businesses are dealing with so much change. Having people around you who understand the challenges you are facing, or who can offer a different perspective, can make a difference.
I would like to thank our members, partners and supporters for the part you continue to play in the Chamber community. Your involvement helps us create opportunities for businesses to connect, learn and grow.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Feature Focus, and thank you for being part of the Staffordshire Chamber community.
