In an era when too many bands are often remembered in the past tense , how pleasing it is to be able to celebrate a band still very much with us . Leyland Band is celebrating 75 years of existence - and what a journey the Lancashire Band has had , including the highest of highs and some rather perilous lows . Brass band historian Tim Mutum charts the history of the proud banding name in a fascinating feature - read on for more .
Someone creating his own history is teenage tenor horn player , Andrew McMillan , who recently became the first tenor horn player to embark on the Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow .
Andrew , who ' s from Campbeltown , Argyll , was also recently named principal horn at Whitburn Band after joining the West Lothian organisation on first horn when he moved to Glasgow in the summer . Exciting times beckon for this young man , who chats to British Bandsman about settling into his new surroundings .
From coverage of the German Open to the latest news , concert and album reviews , Maines ' Music and a trip Down Memory Lane , I hope you enjoy issue 6114 of British Bandsman , dropping - as ever - into your email inbox .
Have a good week .
