While there has been no shortage of challenges faced by bands over the past year , there have been some stories to provide grounds for optimism . Among the shining lights has been Foden ' s Band , which has been working hard on a range of diverse projects enhancing everything from its local area to the wider banding community .
As it celebrates another major funding award , band manager and long-serving principal cornet player of the Sandbach organisation , Mark Wilkinson , speaks to British Bandsman about Foden ' s and its ongoing successes while also reflecting on his own distinguished career . If you ' re on the move , listen to the interview in the latest BB : On the Record podcast .
Like many events , UniBrass is unable to take place in its usual form in 2021 . However , the organisation is working hard behind the scenes and is now celebrating the launch of its debut album , featuring a whole host of university bands , with members having carefully recorded their individual parts at home while they have been unable to meet together . Read all about the daring project later in this edition .
Black Dyke Band has been taking further steps to celebrate its heritage , uncertainty remains over the route out of lockdown for Scotland ' s non-professional musicians and bands are being encouraged to sign up to a new mental health charter - it ' s all in BB .
Have a good week .
