Aycliffe firm achieves ‘ carbon neutral ’ credentials
Shower manufacturer Roman says it has achieved carbon neutral certification from the Carbon Trust .
The thorough process covers all operations and emissions from Roman ’ s 400,000 sq ft manufacturing site on Aycliffe Business Park .
It also includes emissions from employees ’ commuting , business travel and the treatment of waste generated in its own operations .
Roman said achieving Carbon Neutral status has been a key objective over recent years and highlights its “ enormous and ongoing commitment to the environment ”.
The firm ’ s CEO David Osborne said : “ We are extremely proud to have achieved Carbon Neutral status .
“ This is already extremely important for us in the hotel and project sector – increasingly so in housebuilding – and will hopefully become
WORK GATHERS PACE ON LANDMARK DEVELOPMENT

major industrial scheme has hit another key milestone with the development of its latest phase .
The construction of 10 industrial units at Station Place , on Aycliffe Business Park , is well under way , with the groundwork complete and the steelwork of the buildings now being erected .
Station Place is part of the wider £ 90m Merchant Park industrial scheme – a 65-acre development located off J59 of the A1 ( M ) and home to Hitachi Rail Europe .
The new £ 4.8m scheme on Site 2 at Merchant Park is set to provide 50,333 sq ft of new industrial space to support new and expanding businesses in Aycliffe . It will create 130 jobs and is due to be complete in April 2022 .
Durham County Council is supporting the development of the industrial units after

Roman says it also has a significant focus on materials and the circular economy , and is committed to only using recycled aluminium and ensuring that all packaging is recycled cardboard .
Hugh Jones , managing director , advisory at the Carbon Trust , said : “ We have worked with Roman this year to verify their 2019 and 2020 scope 1 , 2 and 3 emissions in accordance with ISO 14064-3 .
“ Roman has met the requirements under PAS 2060 and we are delighted to certify their emissions and operations as carbon neutral as part of their sustainability journey .”

The units will be managed by Business Durham , the business support service of the council .
The development is being delivered in partnership with Merchant Anglo and Rokeby Developments .
Geoff Hunton , director at Merchant Anglo , said : “ We are seeking to address the shortfall of modern fit-for-purpose units in Newton Aycliffe to support new and growing business in conjunction with our partners Business Durham .
“ We are delighted that the buildings are now emerging out of the ground ready for occupation by early summer next year .”
JOBS BOOST II-VI Compound Semiconductors – based at the former Filtronic and Fujitsu factory on Aycliffe Business Park – has announced an expansion of its North-East operations which will create a ‘ significant ’ number of new jobs .
II-VI has not disclosed the number of new positions created but is actively recruiting for 25 jobs at Newton Aycliffe on its website and it is believed that more new jobs will follow .
TEKMAR DEAL Tekmar Energy , a Tekmar Group Company , has won a contract from Global Offshore to supply Cable Protection Systems ( CPS ) for the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm in Germany .
Arcadis Ost 1 is a 257 MW offshore wind project developed by Parkwind . The project will be located in the Baltic Sea , northeast of the island of Rügen in Germany .
