Airport means

BUSINESS

Teesside International Airport

might have been running reduced operations for the past few months , but things have been moving quickly behind the scenes to get 2021 off to a flying start .
The national lockdown restrictions on all but essential travel have meant that we ’ ve continued flying for our key workers but , despite the effect of the pandemic , we ’ ve made some huge announcements recently .
Just before Christmas , we managed to secure a new comprehensive domestic schedule with Loganair , which began with its first flights to Aberdeen taking off last month . This rollout is continuing , with the airline also serving the key business destinations of Belfast , Dublin and London Heathrow , along with Newquay and Jersey in the summer .
And agreements between Loganair and some of the world ’ s biggest airlines , such as United Airlines , Qatar Airways , Emirates and more , are making global business travel easier than ever . Passengers can travel onward via London Heathrow on one ticket for their entire international journey with the reassurance of through check-in and through luggage to their destination .
To support the increased passenger numbers for business and leisure that
we will be welcoming because of this , and due to securing summer holiday flights to Spain with low-cost carrier Ryanair and welcoming TUI back to the airport in 2022 , our terminal is undergoing a full-scale transformation .
Previously mothballed areas will be brought back into use , with new checkin desks and hold baggage scanners , plus a security upgrade with other body and bag scanners to make the service fast , efficient and reliable . In another bonus for onward international travel , the new security area removes the requirement for further security checks at either Heathrow or Amsterdam Schiphol .
For those who like to travel in style , two fully redeveloped business lounges are being created , on top of new bar and café options , plus the return of duty free to the airport .
The aviation industry , like many others , may have been hit hard during this pandemic but we ’ ve been driving forward expansion and redevelopment like never before to create an airport Teesside can be proud of once again .
