The Railway has been a much-loved Winchester live music venue since the 1970s . It has two stages – Platform 1 , the original 120 capacity room at the back of the pub , and Platform 2 , a more intimate space on the first floor for acoustic gigs . They ’ ve hosted everyone from young local bands to international talent – from Fairport Convention to Heavy Lungs , Frank Turner to Lene Lovich . Jazzing it up
As well as their theatrical and comedy offerings , the Nutshell has a regular Jazz Club and one-off gigs . Every third Thursday of the month they host an evening of jazz with some of the UK ’ s best jazz musicians . Look out for the James Owston Quartet and London-based Bag of Bones debuting their new album No One Gets Saved . Or come along for Jazzbops , a mid-week lunchtime gig for grown-ups and their little ones .

Library music
Based in the imposing Grade II listed library building in Jewry Street , The Arc incorporated an 180-seat auditorium into the building after its refit in 2007 . Coming up this Spring they ’ re welcoming Scottish trailblazers , the Peatbog Faeries and festival favourites Police Dog Hogan amongst others . They also put on a free monthly Acoustic Cafe that showcases acoustic performances from local up and coming artists .

The Theatre Royal ’ s beautiful Edwardian auditorium seats 400 and is home to touring and community theatre , comedy and of course its popular pantomime . Its theatrical space is well suited to musicals and opera but there ’ s also a regular influx of great tribute acts . This Spring you can see a Taylor Swift Eras tribute , Rhinestone Cowboy : The Glen Campbell Story and Rock of Ages celebrating 80s rock with some of the biggest hits of the decade . Great music and brilliant fun !
