All the winners from the Tees Tech Awards 2022
Stockton ’ s EnnAppSys was crowned Company of the Year , while the top individual accolades went to Malcolm Knott of ITS and David Dixon of DigitalCity at the Tees Tech Awards 2022 .
Organised by Tees Business in partnership with Middlesbrough Digital and DigitalCity , the third annual awards attracted more than 300 attendees for a night of tech celebration at Hardwick Hall Hotel .
A unanimous choice by five category sponsors , EnAppSys was named Company of the Year ahead of fellow Stockon firm Vianet Group and Middlesbrough ’ s SockMonkey Studios .
Founded in 2003 to provide cloud-based data services to the GB power market , EnAppSys has grown dramatically to become a key player in the market , domestically and internationally , by supplying detailed and accurate market insight to some of the biggest wholesale energy market participants in Europe .
A well-regarded SaaS data and insight provider , the firm has 35 staff – including 25 in Stockton plus a Dutch office in Terneuzen – and has an expected turnover of £ 4.5m for 2021- 22 , with profit of £ 1.5m .
Director Phil Hewitt said : “ We ’ re absolutely thrilled to win the award . It ’ s the first time we ’ ve entered , so we ’ re just amazed we ’ ve won .
“ We ’ ve always been a little bit unrecognised in Teesside and have kept it quiet , so it ’ s great to be recognised .
“ Now we ’ re just continuing to grow and accessing more markets .”
Malcolm Knott was crowned by
Triumphant – winners from the 2022 Tees Tech Awards gather for a team picture at the end of a memorable evening at Hardwick Hall .
Business Leader for 2022 . Malcolm has demonstrated over his 50- year career that digital revolution flows through his veins – and , in Middlesbrough-based ITS , he has built a company that is industry-leading and stays relevant in a constantly changing digital landscape .
“ It ’ s taken me 30 years to be an overnight success !” beamed a proud Malcolm .
“ But it ’ s not about me , it ’ s the team that makes ITS what it is . It ’ s been a brilliant journey from my point of view .
“ I ’ m delighted but I was very surprised to win . What the other finalists have achieved in the last few years is phenomenal and I hope they ’ re still around in 30 years ’ time .”
It was a great night for Sencode Cyber Security too , as the Middlesbrough business lifted the Small Business award while cofounder and technical director Callum Duncan took the Rising Star award .
In the shortlist video played before the presentation , Callum described himself as “ the nerdiest nerd that ever nerded the earth ”.
