BANDEIRA FAMILY VALUES

A

longing to help the environment and to have a better work-life balance has led to a booming business for the Bandeira family , led by Lynette . 3R Removals has a simple mission – to relieve companies of their unwanted office furniture and sell the newly refurbished items on at bargain prices .
“ It ’ s a win-win ,” smiled Lynette , who has a PhD in psychology but is now in charge of 3R Removals . The company receives much of its stock from large corporations that are moving premises or shutting down sites , resulting in a large amount of perfectly good furniture being scrapped and moved to landfill .
The perfect market for this stock is the small start-up businesses that wish to furnish their offices for a reasonable cost .
Lynette explained : “ Not only do we save furniture from landfill , thus helping the environment , but we save companies money by collecting unwanted yet useable furniture free of charge , providing a certified list of scrap items for audit .
“ We then refurbish the items and sell them on to start-ups with a year ’ s

warranty .”
For fledgling companies on Teesside and beyond , every penny counts , and customers of 3R Removals often find themselves with a suite of furniture delivered and installed for 20 per cent of the cost of new items .
Lynette came up with the idea for 3R Removals just over six months ago , renting a 7,000-sq ft warehouse in Hemlington to store furniture that she had painstakingly tracked down and bought from outlets such as Facebook Marketplace .
“ It was real hands-in-the-dirt stuff ,” she laughed .
Having spent ten years in Hong Kong working 18-hour days , Lynette was no
stranger to hard work , but even she has been surprised at how quickly the venture has taken off .
And with work on the increase , Lynette has been able to provide employment for a staff of ten and has a warehouse full of guaranteed Grade A office quality furniture .
“ We ’ re now on the lookout for a second premises ,” she said . “ Ideally on an industrial park .
“ What I really want to do , though , is make Teesside businesses aware of our existence , encourage people to be environmentally friendly and , of course , offer great value for money .” Find out more at 3rremovals . co . uk .

Is your payroll ready for levy changes ?

Changes - Tracey Courtley , director of McBrides Payroll Bureau Services

The Health and Social Care Levy came into effect in April and was introduced by the government to fund deficits in the NHS and social care budgets . The change affects employers and employees and is collected through payroll .

From April 6 , the rates of Class 1 National Insurance Contributions ( NICs ) for employees and employers and Class 4 NICs for the self-employed increased by 1.25 pr cent to effect the change .
However , in his spring statement in March , chancellor Rishi Sunak announced , after some outcry , that the primary threshold for individuals – the point at which people start to pay NICs – would increase from £ 9,880 to £ 12,570 from July 6 , effectively reducing the new levy ’ s initial impact on most people .
Payroll teams will need to ensure that they have updated software to enable this change when it comes in . They will
also need to ensure that provisions are in place from April 6 2023 , when NIC rates will return to their previous levels . At that point , a new standalone 1.25 per cent Health and Social Care Levy will apply on the earnings that are subject to NICs and this will need to be shown as such on employees ’ payslips .
The government will publish guidance on how to report the levy later this year .
Workers who are over state pension age are not currently liable to NICs and are not affected by the current increase . However , they will be subject to the 1.25 per cent levy from April 6 2023 if their earnings exceed the incoming new primary threshold of £ 12,570 .
Luckily , business owners have some time to plan for these changes , but it will be critical to communicate these payroll changes to staff , many of whom may already be experiencing a pinch in their pockets given the impact of rising prices .
If you are feeling overwhelmed and would like to discuss the changes for free with a payroll professional , then please contact either myself or Lauren Gleaves by email at payroll @ mcbridesllp . com . Tracey Courtley , McBrides Payroll Bureau Services
