Chester-le-Street housing development passes milestone

The £ 15m redevelopment of privatelyowned estate Lambton Park near

Chester-le-Street is opening up further to the community with plans for a new retail complex and office space to go alongside 109 new homes .
Homebuilder Miller Homes is creating the new homes , which achieved a build milestone with the completion of the eastern side of Bowes Gate Drive as the new entrance into Lambton Park .
There is also a selection of four-and fivebedroom homes which have been sold , as well as two-bedroom apartments .
The next phase of the redevelopment of Lambton Estate will see the construction of a community hub adjacent to the homes .
At its heart will be a main building offering retail space across the ground floor , envisioned as a traditional high street of around eight independent local shops .
These could include businesses such as a bakery , delicatessen , butcher , grocer , estate farm shop , florist , pharmacy , convenience store and hairdresser / beauty salon .
Plans also include a standalone café / bistro , as well as space across the first and second floors of the main building , which could accommodate anything from conventional offices , serviced office space and meeting rooms to a wellness centre with a yoga / pilates studio or gym .
Other areas of the redevelopment project have seen approximately 11 kilometres of seasonal walks created across the estate , for residents and visitors to enjoy the nature , landscape and heritage of Lambton Park .
The routes offer views of Lambton Castle , the old racecourse , woodland and open parkland , and are open year-round to residents of the estate .
Suicide prevention charity If U Care Share Foundation is continuing its good work throughout the pandemic .
The Chester-le-Street-based organisation was founded by Daniel O ’ Hare ’ s family after the 19-year-old took his own life .
The charity aims to get more people talking about suicide and mental health as a way to reduce the build-up of stress and pressure .
Funding and events manager Dominic McDonough said : “ Now , more than ever , we need to get people talking and reaching out when times are tough .”

New website Totally Greyhound , the brainwave of Chester-le-Street dog lovers Marie Summer and her partner , Colin Stephenson , wants to showcase its bespoke range of items .
And having set up totallygreyhound . com , they need dogs with star quality to model their range of specially created items specifically for greyhounds , lurchers and whippets .
Chester-le- Street firm Tweed Nuttall Warburton ( TNW- Architecture ) has been acquired by Newcastle-based architecture group Sadler Brown as part of its expansion plans .
The purchase of TNW-Architecture is seen as a perfect fit for the SBG ’ s growing workforce , geographic coverage and sector expansion plans .
The award-winning group of architectural companies , which specialise in the design of commercial , infrastructure and residential developments , has recently won a number of new major national contracts .
TNW founding director John Tweed said : “ By teaming up with Sadler Brown we have a huge opportunity to deliver for a wider range and scale of client than ever before .“
A Chester-le-Street secondary school created vital protective equipment for carers and key workers , using funding awarded through a council partnership .
Park View School received a grant of £ 8,772 to enable its design faculty to produce essential visors which it donated to doctors ’ surgeries and care homes .
The money was managed through Durham County Council ’ s Chester-le-Street and District Area Action Partnership ( AAP ) and taken from the neighbourhood budget of three county councillors . Neighbourhood budgets are allocated to all county councillors by the council to use for initiatives in their local area .
