New images of showpiece Sunderland offices unveiled

Stunning impressions of how two proposed grade A office buildings in the centre of Sunderland will fit into the cityscape have been revealed .

The images were produced by Legal & General and Landid , who are behind the planned facilities at Riverside Sunderland – part of a major regeneration project in the centre of the city .
Once completed , they would bring about 200,000 sq ft of high-end office space .
The larger building will comprise 112,660 sq ft over six floors while the smaller will provide 94,991 sq ft over five floors .
James Silver , managing director at Landid , said : “ Our plans for these buildings complement the new sites that are springing up on Riverside Sunderland , as well as older buildings in the heart of the city .
“ They ’ re both ambitious and sympathetic and we ’ re thrilled to be moving forward with them .”
Legal & General has pumped £ 100m into the project .
If planning permission is approved , work could begin early next year , with completion scheduled for summer 2022 .
Mike Coplowe , senior development manager at Legal & General , pointed out : “ Riverside Sunderland is a hugely ambitious development and these plans reflect that , delivering exceptional modern office

Stuart Mclarty , chief executive at dn-a architects , which designed the buildings , said : “ These compelling new buildings will set an exemplar standard for Sunderland and the North-East .

The Riverside Sunderland Masterplan is aiming to create a “ transformational ” mixeduse site in Sunderland , comprising 1,000 new homes , parkland and a library dubbed Culture House .
Councillor Graeme Miller , leader of Sunderland City Council , said : “ Riverside Sunderland is perhaps the most exciting regeneration project in the UK right now , and we ’ re delighted to have d-na , Legal & General and Landid working alongside us to help bring our ambitions to life .”
Sunderland Business Improvement District has joined forces with one of the North-East ’ s leading credit unions to encourage businesses to sign up to its Payroll Savings Scheme .
The Moneywise Credit Union is already working with Sunderland City Council on a savings and loans partnership , where council employees can take advantage of a savings scheme and an ethical loans system .
And now Sunderland BID is working with Moneywise to introduce the benefits of being part of a credit union to other organisations across the city – which can sign up for free .

STORES TURN TABLES ON UPCYCLING
Two Sunderland businesses are cushioning the blow caused to the environment by unwanted furniture – by giving it a new lease of life .
City centre store , Harrison and Brown , often gets furniture traded in or is asked to remove old items when a customer buys a replacement .
And owner Mandy Brown wanted to find a way of doing something with these discarded pieces , rather than throw them away or have them end up in landfill .
She discovered Andyman Upcycling based at Jacky Whites Market at the Bridges and asked if they would like the pieces that the company inherited from a variety of sources .
And now , thanks to Andyman Upcycling owner Andy Buddin ’ s crafty touches , the furniture has a new , unique look – and is ready to take pride of place in someone ’ s home again .
