Learning Curve Group , based near Durham , has appointed former QA chief executive officer William Macpherson as its chairman with immediate effect .
The announcement follows the investment in March by Agilitas , the pan-European mid-market private equity firm , aimed at supporting the business in the next stage of its growth across all areas .
It will also see the departure of former chairman and ex-Dyson chief executive officer Martin McCourt , who exits the business .
Mr Macpherson , who scooped the Outstanding Contribution by an Individual award at the 2019 Education Investor Awards , has a strong history in investment backed private training and education providers .
He led the Financial Training Company through its acquisition by Kaplan and then ran the organisation outside of the United States , before joining QA in 2008 .
As chief executive officer , he transformed QA from a small training provider to an organisation with annual revenues of almost £ 300m and many thousands of students , before retiring in 2019 .
TRAINEES , AZETS Azets , the fast-growing accountancy firm previously known as Baldwins across the North-East of England , is investing in the next generation of talent with the appointment of three graduates and three apprentices .
The new recruits will be based in the Durham and Wynyard offices but will undertake training across all Azets offices in the North-East and play an important role in the ongoing expansion of the business .
Nicole Humphrey , Georgia Smithson and Jasmine Sharpe have joined as part of the annual graduate recruitment programme , while Caitlin Hunt , Joseph Wheatley and Chole Heslop have joined as apprentices .

DAVID HORN , NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY The chief technology officer at a Seahambased cybersecurity firm has been appointed to the employer liaison board at Northumbria University .
David Horn , from CyberWhite , has a wealth of experience from a career spanning more than 20 years in technology and cybersecurity and from his role as a coach and mentor to young people interested in a career in the sectors .
In addition to his work with Northumbria University , David is a mentor for awardwinning charity Founders4Schools , a business ambassador for Business in the Community , and vice chair of the board at Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy .
