creekchella

Summer vacation is right around the corner, which means the Race to Summer is on! The 2017-2018 A.S.B. officers and leadership class have been working diligently to plan the fourth annual Creekchella, an end-of-the-year rally that started back in 2014 by former A.S.B. spirit leader and president, Andrea Figueroa ‘16.

Each year on the week before finals, Leadership hosts a “Race to Summer” spirit week, which ultimately leads up to Creekchella. This lunch rally is inspired by the well-known Coachella music festival and serves as a way to

celebrate the senior class’s last day of high school. Silver Creek students anticipate this event by planning out their Coachella-inspired outfits, and student performers spend several hours out of their week rehearsing for their performances.

What can students expect from this year’s Creekchella?

“A.S.B. ‘18 has completely revamped our decor, with colorful tassels, Creekchella letters, and more to add in some bohemian vibes everywhere you look. Leadership's Events commission is also working on two photo banners to maximize the pictures taken at the event,” said Zayn Cochinwala, future 2017-2018 A.S.B. President.

With over twenty outstanding audition acts, this year’s Creekchella line-up will surely display the amazing talent that Silver Creek students have to offer, including Choreo Club, Polynesian Club, and more.

“Creekchella is one of Choreo Clubs most important shows because of how many people attend the event. We've definitely been working very hard to make sure our last performance of the year is great. My goal this year for the club is to top previous performances and leave a mark on the crowd. I want the crowd to remember us and our performance,” said Choreo Club President, Amara Sledd (‘18).

With all the hard work that the Leadership class and the student performers are putting in, it is evident that Silver Creek students have a lot to look forward to at this year’s Creekchella. The rally will definitely be bittersweet for the Class of 2017 as they prepare to bid Silver Creek High School farewell, but one thing’s for sure: their last day of high school will definitely be memorable.

Dance Concert

By Amara Sledd

On May 5 and May 6, our dance program at Silver Creek finally had their long awaited annual Spring Dance Concert. Each class in dance had been working incredibly hard for weeks to pull off such a difficult show. As expected, each class blew it out of the water.

The last show began at 7 pm and opened with both dance teachers, Ms. Martinez and Ms. Milner, expressing their gratitude and appreciation to their students for how hard the dancers had been working for the past two months.

The show opened with the dance program’s homecoming dance where each class, including Dance 1, Dance 2, and Modern danced to many upbeat songs ending with a remix of Rihanna’s “Work.” This piece was very playful and definitely set the mood for the rest of the show.

The concert consisted of many great group acts and solos. Each act, especially the solos, left the audience in complete awe. The groups that performed were all very fun filled and left the crowd feeling happy and content. The solos on the other hand, were much more focused on the art of dance rather than just dancing with a group of friends and having fun. They mostly consisted of more emotional pieces. The individual performers had the audience at the edge of their seats. Each solo left its mark on the audience and had the audience feel what they were intended to feel while watching the dance. A solo that definitely stood out was Kristen Pineda’s solo as she strayed away from the typical contemporary or hip hop pieces.

“I’ve never done a solo before, and I knew it was going to be my only chance. I wanted the audience to get a weird vibe. Most people do contemporary or hip hop, so I decided to do modern. It was different and I loved that I got to solo something that people liked” -Kristen Pineda ‘17

At the end of the show, when all performers danced together to “Happy” by C2C, I was overwhelmed with happiness, and I was sure the rest of the audience was too. As I watched the performers dance, I noticed how happy each dancer was.

Behind the scenes

The seniors specifically all began to cry while dancing their final performance of their high school career. It was a very emotional yet joyful last performance. After each class bowed, everyone began cheering, and the classes began sitting down on stage as Ms. Martinez and Ms. Milner began to congratulate them.

Like every year, the dancers surprised both teachers with flowers. Pictures were taken and the crowd was cheering loudly. The show then ended with the dance teachers wishing seniors good luck.

Out of all the years I’ve attended Spring Dance Concert, this one was definitely the most memorable, not only because I’m close to many seniors in dance, but also because of the overall environment during the concert. It was much more vibrant and energetic compared to previous years. The concert this year was definitely one of the most memorable and was pulled off flawlessly. I’m very excited to see next years show!
