Planting for the future

Health and safety tech specialist ’ s tree-planting commitment

Corporate and social responsibility is often a term promoted by large organisations whose modern shareholders care as much about how the organisations operate as they do about their returns .

The leadership team at health and safety tech specialist Intasite want to bring these values through to SME level with a new initiative which will see hundreds of new trees planted every year .
The whole concept on which the company was started was to help businesses reduce their environmental impact and produce paperless solutions to time-consuming processes , resulting in efficiencies and saving money .
Lengthy manual inductions to gain entry to industrial sites and endless paper records to store the information can both be things of the past with the Intasite platform .
Inspired by Net Zero Teesside , Intasite director Danielle Croce had the idea of bringing some of this thinking closer to home while the Stockton-based firm was collaborating with one of several renewable energy organisations .
“ The road to net zero is high on the agenda for most organisations these days ,” said Danielle . “ Intasite does all of this great work for wonderful companies , helping them reduce their carbon footprint

and I thought that we should be setting an example at source .
“ A number of our clients , such as Anglo American , Sembcorp UK , CF Fertilisers and Venator , have signed memorandums of understanding with the Northern Endurance Group to identify carbon capture opportunities in the local area . I wanted Intasite to be on board with this way of thinking .”
With the aim of becoming more sustainable and offsetting CO2 , Intasite has committed to planting one tree for every 100 inductions carried out by its clients . To put that into perspective , 59,000 inductions were carried out on Intasite ’ s platforms in 2021 , meaning a commitment to planting 590 trees – roughly the area of two football pitches .
Planting has already begun in conjunction with a farm in Ingleby Greenhow and the Forestry Commission .
“ The whole initiative has gone down really well with the team and everyone has been getting involved ,” added Danielle . “ Not only does it feel like we are doing our bit for the environment , but we have been out in the fresh air with our children planting trees for the good of our planet . “ Being able to demonstrate to large organisations that we share similar values adds gravitas to our software . They want to know that people in their supply chain are responsible and can be relied upon to live those values as well .”
The new concept will also be visually represented in the platform used by the client . As a fun add-on , each client will get a widget on the site manager ’ s dashboard to show how many trees they have helped plant based on the number of inductions carried out .
A strong start to 2022 means that even more trees may be on the horizon if current levels are sustained .
Danielle ’ s fellow Intasite director Andy Martin revealed : “ If we have a whole Intasite forest in a few years , nobody will be happier than me . Firstly , it will mean the business is doing really well but , more importantly , it will mean we have left a legacy for the future generations based on the hard work of our team .”
Tree-mendous !
