House fire in Walgett
Police are appealing for information after a vacant
house in Walgett was destroyed by fire at the
weekend, NSW Police say.
Emergency services were called to the home on
Euroka Street about 11.40pm on Sunday yesterday, and found the home engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished by NSW Fire & Rescue officers, it was determined the home was unoccupied.
The cause of the fire is not known and police are now appealing for anyone who may have information
that could assist their investigation to contact detectives at Walgett Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
A 64 year old Lightning Ridge man has been issued an infringement notice for failing to wear a seatbelt
after he was stopped by police at around 5:30pm on Saturday 1 October 2016.
The man was seen driving a green Citroen southbound along Black Prince Drive, Lightning Ridge. He
was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result. At this time police observed
that the man was not wearing his seatbelt, to which he had no excuse.
A 40 year old Walgett man has been charged with having a Low Range Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol in his system after he was stopped by police for the purpose of a Random Breath Test around
9:50pm on Saturday 1 October 2016. The man was driving a white Toyota Tarago along Dewhurst
Street when he came under police notice. Police spoke to the man and observed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. The man was subjected to a random breath test which returned a positive result. Further checks revealed that the man was disqualified from driving until 28 July 2019. The man was
charged with Low Range Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol and drive whilst disqualified. He will appear before Walgett Local Court on 25 October 2016.
Walgett Police are appealing for information after a green iPhone 5C mobile phone was stolen from the
PCYC headquarters on Namoi Street, Walgett. Staff noticed that the phone was missing from the main
office area, and believe that it may have been taken sometime between late Tuesday 27 September
2016 and Wednesday 28 September 2016. Anyone with information about the location of the green
iPhone 5C is urged to contact Walgett Police on (02) 6820 3999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
