ith a business relationship spanning more than three decades , chartered accountancy practice Baines Jewitt and construction specialists Bussey & Armstrong know the importance of working together to build firm foundations for success .
As one of the largest firms of chartered accountants , business advisers and tax experts in Teesside , the origins of Stockton-based Baines Jewitt can be traced back to 1907 .
Also established around the turn of the 20th century in 1902 as house builders and sawmillers , Bussey & Armstrong have carved out a name for themselves as a provider of high quality , affordable homes in the Darlington area . As well as house building , Bussey & Armstrong Lettings are one of the largest independent landlords in the borough , with a portfolio of over 100 rental properties .
Building success on firm business foundations
Yet despite their well-established roots , both Baines Jewitt and Bussey & Armstrong recognise that business success and an excellent reputation cannot be taken for granted . Both firms also understand the importance of looking to others for help when needed , whether bringing in complementary professional expertise or finding ways to free up valuable time to concentrate on other areas of the business .
Having worked together since 1978 , Bussey & Armstrong first approached Baines Jewitt – then Baines , Goldston and Jackson – following a recommendation . Since then , Baines Jewitt ’ s role has included assisting Bussey & Armstong with annual accounts , providing advice and carrying out tax planning work .
Baines Jewitt director Anne Cowley explains : “ As a firm of chartered accountants , our expertise is not just restricted to financial and tax matters .
We are also qualified to provide professional business advice too .
“ Bussey & Armstrong run their own accounting function in-house . However , we act as an extension to their team , by preparing the annual accounts for them and their associated companies , as well as dealing with corporation tax matters .
“ We also look after the personal tax affairs of the directors , provide advice on tax efficient profit extraction and VAT advice in connection with land transactions . On top of that , we provide ad hoc advice when needed , such as dealing with issues relating to the structure of the business and ensuring Inheritance Tax reliefs are maximised .”
Tony Cooper , who has worked for Bussey & Armstrong since 1985 , is delighted to have Baines Jewitt to hand . He explains : “ Bussey & Armstrong have an excellent team of around 30 people , including skilled trades , craftspeople , directors ,
