PD Ports CEO on Tees harbour authority ’ s bold ambitions
n late 2020 , PD Ports launched its " Future Teesport " vision , detailing its plans to elevate the River Tees to become the UK ’ s most successful port region by 2050 . As the statutory harbour authority for the River Tees , PD Ports is dedicated to delivering a strong and sustainable future for the river and the whole Tees Valley region – driving economic growth , creating high-quality jobs , building thriving communities and supporting the government ’ s " levelling up " agenda for the north .
Together with customers and stakeholders , the Teesport complex – the fifth-largest in the UK – contributes more than £ 1.4bn to the UK economy each year , accounting for 10 per cent of gross added value ( GVA ) in the Tees Valley alone .
Over recent months , PD Ports has worked closely with customers and stakeholders , holding multiple consultations , to identify areas of opportunity and plans to maximise future prosperity .
Since launching its vision , PD Ports has enjoyed several successes , including announcing a partnership with Europe ’ s largest port , the Port of Rotterdam , signing a third major deal at the multi-million-pound Teesport Bulk Terminal on the Teesport estate and , most recently , the launch of a new website that brings together businesses on and around the river to showcase the unique advantages of the whole Teesport
