Welcome to the summer issue of Tees Business .
This 26th issue of Tees Business gives another refreshing and powerful reminder that the Tees region is very much back in business .
It gives me a positive spring in my step whenever a new issue is published , and I know the team at Resolution Media and Publishing are delighted with what is another record edition for sales .
What ’ s particularly pleasing for me , as a founding sponsor of the Tees Businesswomen Awards movement , is to see even more ladies featured in the annual poll of the Tees region ’ s Most Inspiring Business Leaders .
When the poll was first launched five years ago , there were only three women in the top 30 , which was a year before the businesswomen awards were launched .
This year , I ’ m delighted to see there are five women in the top 10 , and 11 in the top 20 , which is a clear indication of the awards making the impact they set out to do , in terms of redressing gender parity and visibility .
I ’ m also absolutely thrilled to see Jane Turner voted number one in the poll . The job Jane has done – particularly in her role as Teesside University ’ s gender champion – and continues to do in fighting the cause for inequality is more than admirable , and I ’ d like to offer my congratulations to Jane for what is a deserved accolade .
The fourth Tees Businesswomen Awards will be held at Hardwick Hall in September , and you can read more about them on pages 20-21 .
I personally am looking forward to “ normal ” events coming back online , and it will be nice to see more people at such events as we start to open up again .
Although there was a small setback with the extension of restrictions , I think it was necessary in order for us to open fully and not be forced to go backwards .
I appreciate there are lots of businesses from the leisure , travel and hospitality sectors that are desperate for restrictions to be fully lifted , but we can ’ t undo all the hard work that ’ s been done by reopening too early .
The Tees business community has fought so hard to weather the Covid storm and I ’ ve been continually impressed by the diversification and creative ways some firms have had to adapt – and I look forward to seeing more of that as we emerge from the pandemic .
