Teesport operator headlines sponsors for inaugural Best New Business Awards

PD Ports , statutory harbour authority for the River Tees and owner and operator of Teesport , has thrown its weight behind a new event to showcase the region ’ s upand-coming businesses .

Rising stars of the region ’ s business sector will go head-to-head with the launch of the Best New Tees Business Awards .
PD Ports will be the headline sponsor for the inaugural event , to be held in November .
CEO Frans Calje said : “ We are honoured to be the headline sponsors at the inaugural Best New Business Awards .
“ Recognising the immense contribution SMEs make to our region is something we should all be proud of and these awards will provide a platform through which we can recognise , celebrate and reward these great businesses and talented people .
“ As the region ’ s largest private employer and a key business in the regional economy , SMEs make up a large proportion of our supply chain and we are delighted to be able to show our support at these awards .”
The Best New Tees Business Awards have a wide range of categories for young businesses and individuals starting out in business .
The awards are being organised by Tees Business owner Resolution Media and Publishing , adding to an awards event stable that already includes the established Tees Businesswomen Awards and the Tees Tech Awards , which took place for the first time last August .
There are awards for the best business in services , creative , manufacturing , retail and hospitality , as well as categories for the Most Original New Business , Best New Community Champions and overall Best New Business .
There are also individual categories for Best New Entrepreneur , Best New Apprentice and an Against All Odds award for someone who has overcome great hurdles to launch into business .
The categories are open to all businesses based in Teesside or Tees Valley founded since November 1 2018 .
Entries will open later in the year but sponsorship opportunities are available now , including category sponsorships for £ 3,000 plus VAT and opportunities to
sponsor the drinks , films and programme from £ 995 .
Tees Business executive editor Dave Allan , co-owner of Resolution Media and Publishing with Martin Walker , said the Best New Tees Business Awards will give a welcome boost to young businesses that have survived the tough test of the Covid pandemic .
“ This is a chance to shine a light on the many rising stars and amazing new businesses across the widest range of sectors in the Tees region ,” he said .
