PROPERTY FIRM ANNOUNCES FURTHER ALBERT NORTH INVESTMENT
50 years at the Centre of the community
Big birthday celebrations are being planned for Middlesbrough ’ s largest shopping centre as it celebrates serving the community for half a century .
Cleveland Centre , located in the heart of Middlesbrough , turned 50 this year , having opened in April 1971 – a month when Marc Bolan ’ s Hot Love was dominating the pop charts , flares and platform heels were in fashion and Stan Anderson was the manager of Middlesbrough Football Club .
The shopping centre is home to a variety of national and local independent stores including Boots , WH Smith , New Look , Deichmann , Costa Coffee , Foot Locker , H Samuel , Stormfront , H & M , HMV , Iceland , JD Sports , Vodafone and the Perfume Shop .
Cleveland Centre has been a large part of the local community for the last halfcentury , supporting various local charities including MFC Foundation and Zoe ’ s Place , while working with Middlesbrough Council to support events such as the Christmas lights switch-on .
Matt Emmerson , of Cleveland Centre ’ s marketing agency Emmerson Marketing , said : “ Cleveland Centre ’ s strapline is ‘ The Centre of The Community ’ and we try to live up to that promise every day .”
To lead the celebrations , a fun film has been produced in conjunction with Emmerson Marketing , showcasing the changing face of the Cleveland Centre over the years . The video can be viewed on Cleveland Centre ’ s Facebook page .
Cleveland Centre manager Graeme Skillen said : “ We are proud to have served Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside community for the last 50 years and wanted to create something special to celebrate this landmark .”
Property and regeneration specialist Jomast has announced further investment in Albert North , a multi-million-pound regeneration project in the centre of Middlesbrough .
Albert Road was transformed into Albert North two years ago . Made up of a collection of eclectic buildings it has benefited from a significant transformation .
It now boasts modern studios and offices , as well as food and drink outlets and is home to many of the town ’ s digital and creative businesses .
Fabrication specialist sets sights on expansion
LOGISTICS CENTRE HELPS DELIVER EXTRA £ 1M TURNOVER
A new 30,000-sq ft distribution centre has been instrumental in home improvements supplier MB DIY increasing its turnover by £ 1m .
The family-run business says its decision to invest £ 2.5m in the purpose-built premises in Middlesbrough , which opened in 2019 , helped MB DIY respond to the challenges of the past 12 months .
Its prominent South Bank Road location has increased footfall to its retail unit while the online business has grown rapidly .
The warehouse , which includes firstfloor office and retail space , was built by Darlington-based Wharton Construction . The project was supported with a £ 247,000 grant from the SSI Task Force .
UK award for barbershop
A Middlesbrough business has been named the best barbers in the UK at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards .
Skins & Needles barbers and tattoo studio beat off competition from more than 50 other hairdressers and barbershops to be crowned the UK ’ s Best Barber Shop of the Year at the online ceremony .
Matthew Salvin set up the Linthorpe Road tattoo shop in 2011 , followed by his barbershop in 2017 , and Skins and Needles beauty salon , led by Matthew ’ s partner Sam Grierson , opened in 2018 .
Sam also picked up the Entrepreneur of the Year award for her beauty venture INeedThatKit . com .
A fabrication and mechanical engineering specialist is setting its sights on rapid expansion after securing a string of new contracts , including a £ 1m framework extension for Northumbrian Water .
Deritend Group , which employs 14 people at its workshop on the Riverside Park Industrial Estate in Middlesbrough , has achieved the deal that involves design , fabrication , coating and site installation of load-bearing platforms and other structural fabrications .
The company is now looking to bounce back from the challenges of Covid-19 by investing in training and workshop equipment and the recruitment of a new lead administrator and two new apprentices .
