S
ome of Teesside ’ s biggest business names are calling on more firms and organisations to join them in their support of an iconic local charity .
This year Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation is celebrating 10 years of fundraising as it emerges from the toughest 12 months in its history .
Thanks to the support of like-minded companies and individuals , over the past 10 years the foundation has donated close to £ 3m for charitable purposes – and every penny has stayed right here on Teesside .
Under a slogan of “ Fighting for Teesside together ”, the charity has gone from strength to strength over much of the past decade . Like most charities , however , the last year has been a struggle , with fundraising events grinding to a halt .
But the charity has continued to support the most vulnerable Teessiders , refocusing its support on those affected by the Covid crisis .
Tees Business is among the established backers of the foundation .
Executive editor Dave Allan said : “ The foundation is all about sharing a little of our success with our disadvantaged fellow Teessiders – supporting struggling local families , funding our foodbanks , fighting digital poverty and donating to Teesside ’ s many wonderful volunteer-led charities and community groups .”
As supporters of the charitable movement , Tees Business works alongside a Who ’ s Who of local
businesses to make the region a better place to live , work and do business .
Among others proud to be part of a powerful force for good on Teesside are iconic local firms such as Cleveland Cable Company , Bulkhaul , AV Dawson , Charles Clinkard and most recently PD Ports .
Tees Business clients among the charity ’ s financial donors as patrons include Active Chartered Financial Planners , Erimus Insurance Brokers , Middlesbrough College , Archers Law , Caswells Group , Tees Components , Racz Group and Azets .
And joining Tees Business as members of the Infant Hercules Charity Club are clients such as ITS , HR Alchemy , Durata and AbacusBean .
Alastair Powell of Cleveland Cable Company said : “ We ’ re in a fortunate position that we ’ ve had a successful business all these years , so we want to give something back to our community .
“ For me and my family , Teesside is our home . It ’ s our area , our town . It ’ s where we grew up , where our parents were from and where our grandparents were from .”
And , he says , it ’ s keeping it local that makes supporting the foundation so appealing
“ The whole attraction of the charity is that it ’ s local , I know the money stays here for some great causes . Everything the foundation does is in the best interests of Teessiders in need . It ’ s 100 per cent committed to people in our area .
“ Teesside needs people that talk up and fight for the area – and that ’ s what the Philanthropic Foundation is all about .”
Karl Pemberton of Active Chartered Financial Planners , who is also one of the charity ’ s trustees , added : “ We ’ re incredibly proud to play our part in this powerful force for good on Teesside . Working together , we won ’ t change the world , we won ’ t even change Teesside , but we do make a tangible difference to the lives of those struggling families and charities we support .
“ But now more than ever , our fellow Teessiders need whatever help we can give them , especially during the ongoing pandemic . So we ’ ll be continuing to back this movement that ’ s patriotically Teesside – and we ’ d love others to join us by giving whatever financial support they can .”
There are various ways to support the Philanthropic Foundation . To become a company patron is £ 5,000 per year , annual membership of the Infant Hercules Charity Club is £ 1,000 or £ 100 per month , while individuals can become Teesside Centurions for just £ 19 per month .
