across the North-East and Yorkshire are set to benefit from an enhanced recruitment service that will connect young people with job opportunities .
Northern Skills Group , Middlesbrough College ’ s apprenticeship and training company , has boosted its recruitment service to give young people new tools for finding the right apprenticeship .
In turn , expert advisors at Northern Skills Group – headline sponsors for the Tees Businesswomen Awards – will work with employers to recruit apprentices who are well suited to their workplaces .
Steph Coleman , executive director of business development at Northern Skills Group , explained : “ We ’ re offering applicants advice on what industries and jobs may suit them and how to present themselves via CVs and in interviews .
“ It ’ s all part of a package to make sure people are connected to the right apprenticeship opportunity and that we set them off on a career that they ’ re going to get a lot out of .
“ Our team is brimming with expertise . All of us have experienced life in different industries , and we ’ re using that to give applicants first-hand advice and insights they can use to get started in their careers .”
The service starts when someone applies to a current apprenticeship vacancy on the Northern Skills Group website .
Northern Skills Group ’ s team review the application and then invite the person to join a series of sessions – both in person where appropriate and via the online video chat platform Zoom .
These sessions deliver detailed advice to apprenticeship hopefuls , including how to hone their interview technique , how to make their CV stand out and discussion about what roles their abilities and interests are suited to .
Peter Donnelly , who has recently joined Northern Skills Group as business development and commercial manager , is giving applicants the benefit of his extensive experience working with employers .
He said : “ For many years I ’ ve worked with all sorts of businesses across different sectors , which has given me a great understanding of what employers are looking for in apprentices .
“ I ’ m using that knowledge to give our applicants guidance and support that will not only help them find the best pathway into an apprenticeship , but also make sure that first step on the career ladder is leading to a job they ’ ll enjoy .”
For employers , the service means they ’ ll receive an even higher quality of applications from learners with not only the right technical skills but also a much deeper awareness of their industry .
Already , hundreds of Northern Skills Group apprentices are working in businesses across the North-East and Yorkshire , having been supported to take their first step in their chosen field .
