INTERIORS

Grand designs

at home and work

Thriving interior design company Cocoon & Bauer has

experienced quite a journey in 2020 . For not only did the work keep rolling in , despite
Covid-19 restrictions and a frustrating , industry-wide backlog in the supply of materials , but its residential side has surged from 30 per cent of the business at the start of the year to about 70 per cent now .
And company founder , Teesside University graduate Peter Turner , thinks he knows why .
He said : “ It ’ s been a really successful year . The residential side has taken off because people have had more disposable income . They ’ ve not been spending thousands on holidays – they ’ ve been sitting in their houses , thinking how they ’ d like to improve them !”
The firm uses impressive 3D visuals to help clients gauge how their transformations may look .
To help with the extra business , Peter has expanded his team , with interior designers Josh Ryan and Casey Hall now joined by office manager Penny Wells .
And moving into their shop at 21 Albert Road , Middlesbrough , having previously been in Boho 5 , has proved a big success .
Peter said : “ People are more comfortable coming into a shop rather than an office environment , so the move to Albert Road has been ideal .
“ It ’ s given us a chance to show what we can do , but in a more relaxed shop setting .”
And it ’ s an offering which continues to appeal to commercial , as well as residential , clients .
“ We ’ ve done the design and provided some of the features and fittings for the Dudley Arms ’ new coffee shop at Ingleby Greenhow . And we ’ ve been working with Simon Fletcher at Pinchinthorpe Hall for when they open their restaurant side again – everything from the colours and roman blinds to new lighting and even the table tops .”
Other commercial projects include an Albert Road office for software firm Big Bite , Cleveland Cable ’ s HQ on Riverside Park , work on Believe Housing ’ s HQ alongside Ultimate Commercial Interiors and a bar in Leeds .
Peter added : “ It ’ s looking good for 2021 . We ’ ll keep ticking along nicely and have organised the business to cope well with the added demand .
“ Now we just need to keep offering a great service to our customers – and I know that ’ s what we ’ ll do .”
