Local firm wins major Teesworks contract

PRAISE FOR NEW TOOL IN BATTLE AGAINST COVID

An exciting new product designed

by Teesside company IC Spray has been given the stamp of approval by
Redcar MP Jacob Young .
Mr Young was joined by David Hitchen , business growth advisor for Redcar and Cleveland Council , in meeting the firm ’ s directors Stephen Larkin and Stuart Brown at the IC Spray / Sealpump Kirkleatham base .
Developed in just a matter of months by the team at IC Spray , EU Tunnels are a quick and easy way to check a person ’ s temperature and sanitise them before they are allowed entry to a building or event . They can also be fitted with additional track and trace support capabilities .
Similar to walking through an airport scanner , an alarm will sound if the
system ’ s thermographic camera detects that an individual ’ s temperature is too high and they will be denied entry . If their temperature is fine , they will then be sprayed with a dry sanitiser – a process which takes only seconds .
Mr Young took part in a demonstration of the EU Tunnel and said : “ This is a fantastic piece of technology , created by a local business , that I ’ m sure will go far in helping to limit the spread of Covid-19 . What ’ s better is it will also aid the tracking and tracing of those who use it .
“ It lends itself well to big venues and office spaces with large volumes of people entering every day . I look forward to seeing these tunnels in use in the near future .”

Another 40 new jobs have been created at Teesworks as the second phase of major £ 4m land remediation and preparation work gets underway .
Planning permission has been granted to begin site preparation works on 120 acres at the Dorman Point zone .
This second phase , which has created 40 jobs , has been awarded to Hall Construction as part of Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen ’ s commitment to creating local jobs . The latest work will see almost one million tonnes of material excavated and reprocessed .
Phase one was carried out by Hartlepool-based Seymour Civil Engineering , which also created 40 jobs as part of a £ 5m project .
£ 2.6M PLASTICS RECYCLING GRANT FOR POSEIDON
Cleantech innovators complete successful biofuel trial
CASH BOOST FOR PLASTIC RECYCLING PLANT
Tees cleantech innovator Nova Pangaea Technologies has successfully developed and trialled its first E10 fuel on a motorcycle at its Redcar headquarters .
The trial , in late October , featured Nova Pangaea ’ s breakthrough process , REFNOVA , which converts secondgeneration non-food feedstocks such as woody and agricultural residues into valuable products for biofuels , biochemicals and biopolymers .
CEO Sarah Ellerby said : “ This is a significant milestone for Nova Pangaea . We have now proven that REFNOVA will produce viable products for biofuels , which are a critical part of the shift towards net zero .”
The fuel was produced by Nova Pangaea ’ s sustainable fuel partner , Coryton , at its Essex base .
A Teesside recycling firm has been awarded a £ 4.4m grant from Innovate UK to build a new job-creating plant .
ReNew ELP , based at the Wilton Centre , near Redcar , is set to start building in early 2021 .
The plant will handle around 80,000 tonnes of waste plastic a year .
A new technology called Cat-HTR ( Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor ) will be used to recycle plastic items such as films , pots , tubs and trays , previously considered unrecyclable .
The plant will be built on the site of the former Invista Textiles site in Wilton , creating 80 construction jobs . A further 30 people will initially work at the plant , with more to follow .
Wilton-based Poseidon Plastics has been awarded a £ 2.6m grant to build a plastics recycling facility that will redirect the equivalent of more than one billion bottles per year out of landfills and the environment .
The grant is from UK Research and Innovation , the national science and research funding agency , as part of its Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging ( SSSP ) challenge .
Poseidon hopes to develop a PET ( polyethylene terephthalate ) plastic recycling infrastructure on an industrial scale .
The grant will be used to commercialise Poseidon ’ s proven chemical recycling technology through the construction of its first commercial facility , initially capable of processing 10,000 tonnes per year of waste PET .
