GUEST FOREWORD
From Jonathan Graham
Hello everyone and welcome to this
new edition of Wear Business.
It is my privilege to have been
invited to write the guest foreword of a
magazine which I think has set a great
example to businesses in the Wear region in
the way that it has refused to be crushed by
Covid-19.
Having only been launched in December,
it would have been easy to make the decision
to shelve the project.
That’s good news for all of us involved
in business in the Wear region because we
need a voice that supports us and a platform
that can show off all the great things being
achieved by businesses locally.
Instead, the Wear Business team has spent
the last six months developing its online
offering before making a welcome return to
the print format. I have enjoyed contributing
to the Wear Words questions on the website
– but you can't beat a hard, printed copy!
Inside these pages, you will find plenty of
uplifting tales and latest news which show
that businesses in the region remain strong
and determined to push on.
The magazine’s cover story and exclusive
interview with the Leighton Group’s Paul
Callaghan and the exciting progress being
made in developing Sunderland’s Cultural
Quarter and surrounds, typifies the region's
resilience.
Here at Tavistock, like so many other
businesses, we have had to innovate and in
some cases reinvent ourselves in order to
survive and hopefully thrive.
The Roker Hotel on Sunderland seafront
had to implement unprecedented changes
to re-open as safely as possible, while at
the same time still trying to make the guest
experience enjoyable and accessible.
The Poetic License Distillery and S43
Brewery have likewise had to be agile and
adapt in order to prosper, such as developing
hand sanitisers.
Overall, the response of businesses across
the Wear region has been inspiring, and
you will see many examples of that in this
magazine, which details all that is positive in
the world of Wear Business.
Enjoy.
