Cyberbullying Statistics
•1 in 3 young people in 30 countries said they have been a victim of online bullying
•1 in 5 if those students admitted they have skipped school due to cyberbullying and violence.
•Nearly half of young people (47%) have received intimidating, threatening or nasty messages online
•Children and young people are using social media for longer periods of time
•Underage (U13) use of social media is common place – desipite the minimum age to access social platforms being 13 years
•There is a connection between intensive social media use and mental ill health
•Over 2/3 (68%) young people that say they have experienced a mental health issue due to cyberbullying
How to keep safe online?
•Keep personal information private
•Set your privacy settings to ‘Private’
•Be careful what you download
•Choose strong passwords (minimum 8 characters long including at least 1 of the following: capital letters (ABC), lowercase letters (abc), numbers (123) and special symbols (!£$?@)
•Make online purchases only from SECURE sites
•Be careful who you meet online – they may seem nice and kind online but in reality they could be someone very dangerous
