light emits wavelengths
that can activate cells
in the retina and send
the light signals to the
SCN telling the body:
“it is still day time”, so
melatonin production
decreases. The reduced
melatonin levels can
disrupt sleep keeping
people awake for a longer time, which makes
them eat more during
the night. Importantly,
exposure of bright light
at night is already being
considered a risk for
cancer development.
