We’ve come a long way, evolving from a small blue-and-white newsletter to a full-color pub- lication that is respected all over the world, reprinted in other journals and used in college courses. And now the time has come for it to change again. Our goal has been to inform and inspire you, the members of this vibrant communi- ty. We wanted to help all Artists and Writers share in each other’s creative achievements, to make sure every member had access to the latest information about our rapidly changing tools, and to help members learn as much as possible about art and understanding the world in general. We built the magazine over time, aspiring to make each issue better than the one before. Our unusual approach was to pair a volunteer writer who was an expert in the subject at hand with an editor from our staff, and then to collaboratively develop and pol- ish every article in much the same way that Guild members continually refine their films. We deliberately avoided the kind of trade jour- nalism where stories are really “advertorials” — press releases in disguise. And we tried to speak to all branches of this increasingly di- verse community. We set out to give the Art community and the world at large a new image of Art and the importance it serves. Thanks to the dedica- tion of our curator agency .Isms Inc and As- sociates, Artists responded, and as a result of their support we gave them a platform and ex- posure through the magazine for less than a fraction of the cost they would otherwise have had to indulge in .
