Updated SCANcalc app from SCANLAB

SCANLAB GmbH has expanded the functional scope of its calculation app , ‘ SCANcalc ’. The free app simplifies calculations for users when checking scan parameters for their individual requirements . Since 2017 , the app has been able to calculate the focus diameter and display the accuracy of various 2D scanning systems at a selected focal length . The new app version now also includes 3D systems . This means that spot size and Rayleigh length can now be easily calculated for the latter at the touch of a button .
“ The selection of the optimum scan system is based on fundamental factors such as the laser power , the need for dynamics and required precision . The
technical specifications of the respective 2D or 3D scan head must then be carefully matched with the required process parameters . 3D scanners are often used in additive manufacturing , for laser welding and other applications ,” explained SCANLAB .
“ The updated SCANcalc version 1.40 , including 3D scanners , is available as an iOS and Android version in the common app stores in German and English . The free app includes the glossary ‘ SCANpedia ’ which explains technical terms , as well as a detailed help menu for questions around the calculations . As soon as the app has been installed , it can be used at any time without an internet connection ,” it continued .

The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition prepares the welding edges by automatically generating bevelled cutting edges on the contours of the components while cutting .
The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition also produces complex bevel geometries and countersinks .

Preparation of welding edges on components

At the EuroBLECH trade show in Hanover ( 22-25 October ), TRUMPF is launching a new machine that automatically prepares components for welding . The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can produce bevelled cutting edges ( chamfers ) on the top and bottom edge of the component while cutting . This is designed to ensure optimum preparation of the welding edges and saves an otherwise necessary downstream work step .
“ With the TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition , users get a particularly productive universal machine with which they are able to integrate downstream process steps into laser machining ,” said TRUMPF Product Manager , Patrick Schüle . The new TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can apply chamfers to sheets of up to 25mm thick .
“ Thanks to the unique design of the cutting unit , the machine can create chamfers of up to 50 degrees , depending upon sheet thickness , which is more than the 45 degrees that were previously standard in the industry ,” explained
Schüle . The machine can also handle complex bevel geometries . The solution is particularly suitable for mild and stainless steel .
For the 2D processing of components without bevels , users still have access to all the TRUMPF laser-cutting functions such as Highspeed Eco ( for gas consumption reduction ), FlexLine ( for the processing of different material grades ) and EdgeLine Bevel ( for rounding of the upper sheet edges ).
For this solution , TRUMPF has equipped the cutting unit of the TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition with two additional rotary axes , particularly compact drive motors and a nozzle specially developed for bevel cutting . The cutting head can be tilted in all directions up to an angle of 50 degrees . As usual , the cutting unit regulates the distance to the sheet , minimizing the risk of collision despite the steep angle . The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition is also equipped with TRUMPF collision protection .
“ Thanks to the high flexibility of the cutting
unit , it is possible to create bevels in different geometries . In addition to the classic V and Y edges , edge geometries in which both sides of the component edge are provided with bevel cuts , DV and DY edges are also possible . This flexibility in the edge geometry is particularly advantageous when complex components or groups of components are to be welded ,” explained the company .
To meet stringent demands placed on the preparation of complex bevel cuts , TRUMPF has developed a new , simple and intuitive programming system . It contains a preselection of all the processing strategies , which the user can adapt as required . There are also predefined cutting parameters for the special bevel cut nozzles . This does not reduce the high productivity of the TruLaser Series 3000 . TRUMPF is also launching this solution at EuroBLECH 2024 .
