ASME Dedicated Service Award winner
Ricardo Martinez-Botas , professor of turbomachinery and deputy head of the mechanical engineering department at Imperial College London , has been named the 2023 recipient of the Dedicated Service Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ( ASME ).
“ The award honours dedicated voluntary service to the Society marked by outstanding performance ; demonstrated effective leadership ; prolonged and committed service ; devotion ; enthusiasm and faithfulness . He has served as chair of the ASME IGTI Executive Committee , chair of the Turbomachinery Committee and a member of the Heat Transfer Committee for three decades ,” explained Imperial College London .
His research work has attracted substantial industrial interest , as well as support from government agencies . This approach has enabled Ph . D . and postdoctoral students to participate in innovative and meaningful research , such as an award-winning new
Ricardo Martinez-Botas . turbine concept that improves engine level fuel economy .
Martinez-Botas also leads the Turbo Group , a recognized centre of excellence in turbocharging , hybridisation and exhaust gas energy recovery . He is director of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-Imperial Future of Boosting Innovation Centre and co-directs Locartic , an initiative with the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia . He is a member of the Science Advisory Council of the UK Department for Transport and has made significant scientific contributions to air quality policy of road transport . He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2018 .
Martinez-Botas earned a Master ’ s degree in Aeronautical Engineering with Honours from Imperial College London . He obtained a DPhil in the Rolls Royce University Technology Centre at the University of Oxford .

New appointments for Olympic Steel
Olympic Steel Inc ., a metals service centre in the United States , has announced several recent leadership changes . Founded in 1954 , Olympic Steel is focused on the direct sale of processed carbon ; coated and stainless flat-rolled sheet , coil and plate steel ; aluminium ; tin plate and metal-intensive branded products . The company ’ s CTI subsidiary is a leading distributor of steel tubing ; bar ; pipe ; valves and fittings ; and a fabricator of value-added parts and components . Michael Heenan has been named to the role of general manager for Olympic Steel ’ s Gary , Indiana , temper mill processing and distribution facility . Gerald “ Jerry ” Gideon has been named commercial director for Olympic Steel ’ s Specialty Metals business segment . Richard Ranells is the new general manager for the company ’ s processing facility in Latrobe , Pennsylvania . Scott Silverman has been named general manager for the company ’ s processing facility in Streetsboro , Ohio .

Corporate structure changes and new COO for Wilson Tool
Wilson Tool International , the largest independent manufacturer of tooling systems for punch presses , press brakes and punch and die components for the stamping and tableting industries , has announced the appointment of Chris Lawless as COO . It has also confirmed the creation of CFO and CCO roles .
“ Since starting in the engineering department in 1992 , Chris has helped to inspire a culture of continuous improvement , growing Wilson Tool and making a good company better . His efforts also provided opportunities for him . In 2002 , Chris became the VP of Operations and was promoted to President in 2013 . Chris received his degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State and an MBA in Finance with an emphasis on Venture Capitalism from the University of St . Thomas ,” said the company .
As Chief Operations Officer , Chris Lawless will be overseeing all global tooling operations as well as additional Wilson Tool Enterprise companies . He will be focused on ensuring enterprise-wide strategic alignment , strategy and growth as well as
supporting Wilson Tool customers around the world .
Wilson Tool also confirmed the addition of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Commercial Officer roles to its leadership structure . The Chief Commercial , Financial and Operations officers will collaborate with the CEO to set strategy , drive growth and maximize profits .
