FOCUS ON FOLDERS

The MFA CNC Servo Combi sheet metal folder from Erbend.
Based upon kinematic control shaft technology that ensures synchronised force distribution across the entire working length, the new Thalmann D-POWER double folder will offer greater bending clearance. The folding beam now retracts by more than 200mm, almost doubling the horizontal bending clearance. It will also feature an energy-efficient servo drive, flexible sideloading solution and multifunctional handling table. Three modular automation units( sheet feeding, sheet turning and sheet unloading) are designed to reduce manual handling, lower staffing requirements and improve production efficiency. A new laser scanner safety system provides continuous protection.
Other CIDAN folding exhibits at EuroBLECH will include the FORMA Z 32 folding machine with straight upper beam, the FX 32 with nuLINK control and the MF and MFB manual folding machines.
Erbend Makina San. VE TIC. A. S. is a Turkish manufacturer of folders, panels benders, motorised shears and various special products, plus software. It operates machines in more than 50 countries( among them the United States, Canada, Sweden, Germany and Australia) and exports 85 per cent of its production.
“ We offer solutions to our customers for high-quality production in many fields such as roof accessories; building façade cladding; professional kitchen equipment; heating-cooling-ventilation systems( HVAC); door-window bodies and frames; elevator and escalator systems’ furniture and shelf systems,” it said.
Its folder range includes Combi Up-Down sheet metal folders, single-station folders, Combi and manual folders. The Combi beam advantage is the ability to fold long profile parts and box panel parts at the same time without changing tools. Its PBC Series Panel Bender Compact is now faster and more efficient with robotic arm integration.
EVOBEND GmbH was founded in 2018 by brothers Matthäus and Emanuel Allerberger, with a team of experienced industry specialists. Together, they bring decades of practical knowledge in long folding machines, slitting and cut-to-length lines as well as sheetmetal and roofing machinery. Each model is equipped with precision-milled bending and clamping tools made from high-strength tool steel, along with other advanced features including a clamping beam geometry with 300 ° of clearance. Its portfolio includes the D-series double folder with electric drive and S-Series single bending machine with innovations such as retractable loading tables and automated grippers, as standard.
“ The S-Series’ unique design without swivelling bending beams allows operators to work closer to the machine. This not only boosts efficiency but also enhances comfort and safety,” the manufacturer told ISMR.
“ With SmartBend, our machine performs minimal, simultaneous movements for each bend, that previously required large, sweeping motions. Thanks to a range of different bending paths and movement patterns, profiles can now be produced fully automatically, which were once either manually processed or considered impossible to bend. A special pinching function automatically hems the sheet together evenly. Interlocking or siding panels can be bent automatically,” it said.
Forge in Mattoon, Illinois( USA) has the North American patent rights to European folding manufacturer Variobend’ s products and is the U. S. manufacturer of Variobend equipment. Its portfolio includes single / double folders, a double bender and a single bender. It builds Variobend machines in the U. S. with SAE hydraulic lines, hoses and other components. In fact, all hydraulic components are sourced in the USA. See also Variobend entry in this article.
Gabella Macchine is an Italian manufacturer of sheet-metalworking machines with 60 years of experience in the production of cut-to-length lines, slitting lines, multi-blanking lines, press brakes and folders.
Its MOD GAMMA folder can process low thicknesses and large widths: from 6 to 12 metres.
GMC Machine Tools’ electromechanical sheet metal folders have been designed to bend light-duty sheet metal. They are equipped with an Italian ESA 6-axis CNC controller and an 11” touch-screen monitor. Most of its product line is manufactured in Taiwan. Other machines are designed in the U. S. and manufactured in Italy and China.
H. M. Transtech, s. r. o. is a privately owned Slovakian company with more than 25 years of experience in the production of sheetmetalworking machines. Its production programme offers standard machines as well as machines with modern graphic CNC control systems. The production range includes manual folders up to a maximum length of 4.5m; shears; plate bending machines; motorised and hydraulic shears; motorised folding machines; coil-processing / sheet lines and other special machines.
“ Our motorised folders are suitable for small-batch and mass production of simple open and closed profiles and boxed products. Motorised sheet metal folding machines are highly flexible in the transition to a different type of products. The capacity of the motorised folding machines ranges from 1-8mm of thickness while length is in the range of 1-5m. A wide selection of accessories, including motorised and manual rear bumpers as well as control options from manual to advanced CNC graphic control, are available,” said the company.

Jorns AG is a Swiss, family-run business and internationally active specialist manufacturer of semi-automatic and fully automatic bending machines / folders. The company also offers accessories( e. g. cutting tables, shears and support arms) as well as bending software / control, service and support. Jorns AG celebrated its 50-year milestone anniversary in 2023.
“ We have been developing and building these bending machines since 1973. We manufacture 120 bending machines per year, of which 40 are double bending machines. These are sold, installed and serviced by our international partners, who are independent sales and service agencies. 5500 Jorns
