Goodfellow invests £ 1.5m into U. S. site

One of the UK’ s leading advanced materials and metals suppliers is targeting international expansion after opening a new expanded production facility in the United States. Goodfellow has invested more than £ 1.5m into the 15,000 square-foot precision engineering centre based in the heart of Maryland, Columbia( USA).
Over 100 delegates from the local business community gathered for the ribbon cutting and official opening, including representatives from Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Howard County Economic Development Authority and Howard County Council( USA). They heard how the investment strengthens the company’ s micro machining and advanced materials capability within the U. S., reducing lead times for its customers and reinforcing its ability to support complex, high-volume programmes.
Up to 20 new jobs will be created as part of the expansion, taking the firm’ s U. S. workforce to 60.
“ This expansion reflects our commitment to production in the U. S., as well as providing an advanced global hub for our

micromachining business,” explained Simon Kenney, CEO of Goodfellow.
“ As Artificial Intelligence( AI), aerospace and medical technologies push the boundaries of what’ s possible, we’ re investing in the capacity and capability to be a true manufacturing partner to companies shaping the future of these industries. With this investment comes a real opportunity to expand our export business, which accounts for 80 % of annual sales,” he added.
Based in Huntingdon in the UK, Goodfellow is a global supplier of more than 170,000 different advanced metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, compounds and composites, serving sectors such as aerospace, medical, electronics, energy and advanced technology. The company provides materials, precision micro machining and technical support to help customers move innovations from research and development into full-scale production.
As part of its U. S. expansion, the site has been equipped with the latest laser systems, giving the company the ability to operate at ultra-fine tolerances and with complex micro-scale components. Goodfellow has already maximised this new capability by securing a multi-million-dollar deal with one of the world’ s leading manufacturers of AI processors.
In September 2026, Goodfellow Group announced the acquisition of TEA AG, an ISO / IEC 17025-accredited independent testing and engineering laboratory based in Wetzikon, Switzerland. The acquisition extends the range of testing and certification services that Goodfellow can offer its customers in Europe, North America and Asia. n www. goodfellow. com

Defining the“ manufacturing wellness” test

Sandvik Cormorant has launched its latest“ manufacturing wellness” report. Manufacturing wellness, it said, is the state of resilient, thriving manufacturing companies that have a positive impact on people and societies.
“ Nearly 1,000 manufacturers responded. The average manufacturing wellness score across all eight habits: 49 out of 100. What does that number mean for the industry and what’ s holding it back from going further?” it asked.
“ We’ ve found that the most successful manufacturing companies deliberately do certain things. And so do we, in our own production. Below are the habits that we believe lead to manufacturing wellness,” it told ISMR.
■ Take a holistic perspective. Focus on the most impactful steps in the grand scheme and eliminate barriers to lasting success.
■ Embrace new technology. Be quick to adapt to new developments in machining, digitalisation and tooling technology to reap the rewards.
■ Choose the sustainable path. Taking the lead in sustainability is not only good for the planet, but it will also boost your bottom line.
■ Eliminate waste. Uncovering the waste along the manufacturing value chain will give you new ideas on how to improve processes and results.
■ Unlock potential with data. Use data to spot potential improvements and make informed decisions that increase transparency and productivity from CAD to delivery.

■ Benefit from strong partners. Learn from industry leaders and share the knowledge to drive positive change for everyone.
■ Develop your people. Retain talented people who are eager to make a difference and nurture their drive to learn and evolve with the times.
■ Automate for success. Cut costs, increase quality, reduce the need for rare expertise and accelerate your success.
The key to success, according to Sandvik Cormorant, is the right people, knowledge and technology for healthy manufacturing and a sustainable business.
