for automated and manual welding. It showcased modular automation concepts based on standard components which could be individually adapted, from submerged arc welding to the EWM REACT welding process. As a highlight, live welding via cobot was also demonstrated on its stand for the first time.
On the stand, Alan Cauchi also highlighted EWM’ s new range of personal protective equipment( PPE) for welders, the Guardian Powershield, and a newly launched inverter( Tetrix XQ 300 SiC) for manual TIG welding which features silicone carbides for higher energy efficiency and a longer service life.
A digital focus

Another key topic at the trade show for EWM was digitalisation, including its further developed Welding 4.0 welding management system( ewm Xnet). This supports the digital control and evaluation of all welding processes and provides all relevant production and consumption data in real time. This data can not only be tracked, but also centrally managed and documented. In addition, ewm Xnet enables continuous quality monitoring by automatically recording welding parameters and comparing them to the specifications. This allows deviations to be detected at an early stage and documentation requirements to be met in accordance with standards.
“ Overall, we see that the welding industry is transforming, with lots of change. Digitalisation and automation are becoming stronger. Digitalisation, for us, means connecting machines to each other and finding new ways of using data in a productive way. On the automation side, we have focused on basic- level welding automation with cobots as well as advanced welding with our high-speed REACT system. Innovation is in our blood and we are investing a lot into this system,” Thomas Häusle, Chief Business Officer( CBO), EWM and MD of EWM Holding, told ISMR.
“ We integrated our Expert 3.0 control panel into our XQ series MIG / MAG welding machines earlier this year to make welding more operator-friendly and easy for welders. With those panels, we can limit access for operators( depending upon the application),” he added.
Easy operation, high-quality welding results, automation and Industry 4.0— EWM places the user at the centre of its innovative developments and continuous product optimisation.

POWERSHIELD Guardian helmets

At SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN, EWM presented a special edition of its POWERSHIELD helmet series.
“ The three models of the“ POWERSHIELD Guardian” helmets, each limited to 250 pieces, combine occupational safety with individual designs. All three models offer protection for a wide range of applications, including TIG DC and TIG pulse( with strong TIG response at low amperage); MIG / MAG; MIG / MAG pulse; plasma cutting / welding; grinding and oxy-fuel welding and cutting. They are therefore suitable for various welding processes and guarantee maximum versatility in use,” said EWM.
“ With the limited edition, we want to offer our customers helmets that not only impress technically, but also make a visual statement,” emphasised Guido Kleimann, Head of the Welding Accessories Business Unit, EWM.“ The combination of functionality and design makes each model something special.”
