Schleifstein Maschinentechnik GmbH , or SMT , is a German , family-owned machine-tool manufacturer with a long history . The company was founded in 1896 and is based at Siegen in Germany .
It started manufacturing products for the steel industry such as steam engines , steam hammers , pumps and roll forming machines . The company quickly grew and then began developing heavy shears , bending and dishing machines , pickling machines and other equipment for the metalworking and automotive industries . Today , it is also a global specialist in cleaning and spray lubrication machines for the automotive industry ( blank and coil preparation ).
In 2005 , Karsten Koert bought the company and turned it into a global supplier for the automotive , metalworking and steelprocessing industries .
