2 . Rising demand in key sectors : Despite the challenges , demand for sheet metal products remains robust particularly in industries such as renewable energy ( solar panels ), construction and telecommunications ( 5G infrastructure ). This is fuelling growth opportunities , especially for those who can innovate and adapt quickly .
3 . Supply chain disruptions and costs : The industry has faced significant disruptions in global supply chains due to the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical factors , which have driven up the costs of raw materials such as steel and aluminium .
This has put pressure on margins , making it critical for companies to streamline their operations and better manage inventory .
Industry trends and challenges
Eneko Conde outlined important industry trends and challenges that he has identified whilst working with various metalworking customers around the world .
“ In terms of trends , there is a significant push towards automation and smart manufacturing technologies , enabling increased efficiency and reduced production costs . Customisation and flexibility are key trends : customers are increasingly requesting tailored solutions , necessitating adaptable manufacturing processes that can handle small batch sizes or unique specifications ,” he highlighted .
“ Digitalisation is another major consideration . The integration of digital tools for design , manufacturing and supply chain management is becoming crucial for competitiveness and responsiveness ,” he continued .
The industry faces challenges in attracting and retaining skilled workers , which is critical for precision manufacturing . Ongoing global supply chain issues can affect the availability of materials and components , leading to delays and increased costs .
“ To counter these challenges , GEKA is investing in advanced manufacturing technologies , such as robotics and AI-
GEKA has also been focusing on innovation , launching new models ( such as its DSB drilling and sawing line ) and enhancing its press brake and laser solutions
