Simultaneous laser cutting and sorting
“ Automated sorting in laser cutting is often viewed as the ultimate goal , but we don ’ t believe any current system on the market truly delivers ,” outlined Marcin Ejma , Founder and CEO of Eagle Lasers .
“ We realized that improving sorting wasn ’ t enough . Instead , we needed to rethink the cutting process itself . Rather than cutting parts directly , we decided to cut the scrap around them , leaving only the parts to be sorted ,” he added .
This idea led to the creation of FlowIN , Eagle Lasers ’ new integrated system that is designed to ensure simultaneous material cutting and sorting . It will debut at EuroBLECH 2024 in Hanover , Germany ( 22-25 October 2024 ) on Eagle ’ s stand F242 ( Hall 13 ).
“ FlowIN is more than just a cutting system — it ’ s a full production solution . It cuts and sorts at the same time , ensuring only finished parts exit the machine with no leftover skeleton . The metal sheet is fed onto a brush table , where parts are cut , separated from the scrap and conveyed on a belt-driven table . Sorting outside the machine is streamlined into a simple pick-and-place process , as the machine already separates parts during cutting . The skeleton is cut into smaller pieces for easier waste management and better material utilisation . The system ’ s design also eliminates the need for a pallet changer ,” explained Eagle Lasers .
“ FlowIN ’ s brush table has no comb-related issues such as cleaning , exchange , part scratches , debris and time lost removing contaminants . Its automatic separation of cut parts from both the skeleton and each other simplifies the workflow , removing the need for microwelds , microjoints or nanojoints . With power capabilities of over 40kW , FlowIN is also coil-cutting ready and optimises material efficiency-driven nesting , ensuring minimal gaps between parts while preparing them for sorting ,” it continued .
The system features Eagle ’ s components including the award-winning eVa Cutting Head ; linear motors on all axes ; a carbon fibre traverse ; a polymer concrete machine body and Eagle Eye fault detection technology . FlowIN ’ s core purpose is to “ free ” parts and enhance production flow , aiming to make a significant industry impact . Its fibre technology has been designed to deliver energy savings , shorter lead times , lower costs per part and improved profit margins for operators , Eagle Lasers told ISMR .
“ Our system frees parts from the surrounding scrap . Most machines [ in the market ] still leave a skeleton , making sorting difficult and time-consuming . No matter the industry , clients who recognize the benefits of FlowIN will find it highly profitable ,” concluded Marcin Ejma . n
