The new sustainable , gas-free and energyneutral building is next to the Voortman Experience Centre and is part of the Voortman Campus . Conceived as an inspiring , creative , green and high-tech working environment for employees , it features open workspaces , lots of light and green surroundings . Engineers in the new building work on technological innovations , implement new technologies and develop / test machine prototypes .
“ We acquired a new company , Müller Opladen GmbH ( a leading German manufacturer of pipe-processing machines ) in January this year . This acquisition expands our product portfolio , by adding profile cutting machines for steel pipes , pressure vessels and structural steel . The integration of Müller Opladen is an important step forward in meeting the needs of our current customers by offering a complete product portfolio for profile , plate and pipe processing , and enabling us to move into new markets ,” Thomas Krone , Business Development Manager , Voortman Steel Machinery , told ISMR .
“ Our three strategic pillars are automation , process optimisation and service . It is very important that our customers ’ machines are continuously running so that they can deliver products within lead times . We have therefore also invested significant amounts in expanding our global service locations to ensure that our service technicians are always nearby our customers . With seven global locations now , including well-stocked spare parts and consumables service offices , we maximize our customers ’ uptime ,” he continued .
market for the company in recent years . The Voortman V310 is its most complete plate processing machine . The second version of this was introduced last year . This machine helps plate processors to expand their capabilities if they wish to utilize a full range of processes for plates . The new Voortman V310 performs fully automatic carbide drilling , full contour milling and 3D bevel cutting . VACAM scheduling and buffering allows users to perform all processes in unmanned mode .
“ The machine really is a game-changer in the market as its multiple processing capability appeals to plate processors who are constantly looking to add more value to their operations . The plate-processing market is now ready for this type of machine , with easy set-up and start . We will keep adding new features to the machine and offering software upgrades and automation solutions to our customers ,” explained Thomas Krone .
“ In the past , plate processors primarily generated revenue from the sale of steel rather than the cutting process itself such as laser , plasma or oxyfuel . If they add different processes to their operations , they add value to the product for their customers . As end users prefer to buy their products from a onestop shop , plate processors need to act like a one-stop shop and make sure they can supply everything that their clients need ,” he added .
He believes that automation is becoming increasingly important , but pinpointed the “ logistical inefficiency ” in plate processing and the need for better traceability of the process . Voortman offers a range of tools to meet this need .
“ Processed plate suppliers need detailed insight into their production processes so that they know where their product is in the overall process and whether they can respect the lead times discussed with their customers . They need to add value efficiently , ensuring that they know the status of orders and are acting in a transparent manner to become a true one-shop shop ,” outlined Thomas Krone .
Adding value to processes
Voortman is a key player in the plateprocessing industry , serving many plate service centres in recent year . The steel-supply market , which has benefited from disruptions to global supply chains , has become a very important
