ISMR : What is your approach to Industry 4.0 and related technologies such as artificial intelligence ( AI ), virtual reality ( VR ) and augmented reality ( AR )?
HS : With our Welducation Simulator , we are already using augmented reality ( AR ) to make virtual welding training even more practical and realistic .
As an innovation leader , we do not want to react to trends but co-create them . We want to have the right solutions ready before our customers demand them . That ’ s why , for example , we were happy to host the Joining Smart Technologies Automotive Conference which , this May , was dedicated to sustainability and the topics of digitalisation and AI in the automotive industry .
This high-profile event serves us as the perfect platform for a close exchange between scientists and experts from the automotive and supplier industries . Numerous areas of application for AI were discussed as it offers good support , especially when it comes to complex processes with enormous amounts of data . For example , in terms of joining in a material- , energy- and time-efficient manner or perhaps one day making the destructive visual inspection , that is unavoidable in welding , obsolete through AI data .
ISMR : Are there any products / technologies that you have released or are releasing this year that you would like to discuss ? arc welding , MIG / MAG and TIG ). The protective measures that need to be taken depend upon the welding process , the base material and the filler metal .
