ISMR : How has TRUMPF embraced sustainability in its products , processes and operations ?
The nano-joint process from TRUMPF .
MM : As a 100-year-old family business , sustainability is part of the DNA of our corporate culture . TRUMPF solutions have always been sustainable . The machines are particularly durable , can be easily repaired and come with a 15-year warranty for spare components ( even if the machine is no longer produced ).
On the other hand , we see developing sustainable technologies for our customers as a major lever for greater climate protection . In addition to energy savings , material savings also hold enormous potential for companies to improve their carbon footprint . TRUMPF solutions support customers in saving material and energy along the sheet-metal process chain . For example , we offer one of the most efficient algorithms on the market for nesting and a laser blanking system which processes material directly from coil . This saves material and increases climate protection .
In October 2024 , we will be exhibiting at the EuroBLECH exhibition in Hannover , Germany . We will also have a presence at several international trade fairs , such as STOM-TOOL in Poland .

Sustainability in focus

Climate action and environmental protection , a commitment to social issues and the community , and responsible corporate governance are the cornerstones of TRUMPF ’ s sustainability strategy .
TRUMPF used its annual INTECH in-house exhibition earlier this year to showcase solutions designed to boost sustainability and productivity in connected manufacturing . New developments on show included Highspeed Eco , a process that reduces gas consumption in laser cutting by as much as 60 per cent .
Other exhibits presented technology that is designed to reduce the use of materials in manufacturing . Among these was the nano-joint process , which substantially reduces the size of the retaining tabs that connect parts to the metal sheet from which they have been cut by laser . This means that parts can now be nested right next to one another , reducing the amount of waste material in the skeleton .
TRUMPF also presented shortpulse lasers that eliminate chemical cleaning agents in the industry ( only cleaning components where it is actually needed ). It also demonstrated how the use of high-speed laser metal deposition ( HS-LMD ) can help to reduce brake-disc wear , and particulate emissions , in road traffic .
“ Our customers have seen huge increases in the cost of production due to higher energy prices . Our technologies reduce the use of energyintensive materials and are less power-hungry overall . By offering more sustainable and lower-carbon methods of sheet-metal fabrication , we can help companies fight more effectively against climate change and slash the cost of materials and manufacturing ,” said Stephan Mayer , Chief Executive Officer Machine Tools , TRUMPF .
ISMR : Which exhibitions will you be attending this year ?
MM : In the machine-tool sector , Blechexpo in Stuttgart is the last major trade show for TRUMPF this year .
In 2024 , there will be many important trade fairs . For example , in April 2024 we will invite visitors from all over the world to our in-house trade show ( INTECH ) in Ditzingen , Germany . Shortly afterwards , we will be at the Tube exhibition in Düsseldorf , Germany .
TRUMPF is a laser-cutting specialist .
