TIG welding technology in the spotlight

The new INVERTIG i 260-450 DC and AC / DC HIGH from REHM combines the company ’ s fourth generation of inverter technology with its innovative SIRIUS digital operating system . This next generation of three-phase TIG devices has been designed for rapid and reliable welding , said the welding specialist .
“ The dynamics of the power units set new standards . The inverter requires no output inductor ; this allows the full potential of digital control engineering to be achieved . The result is highly efficient welding processes with a perfect arc ,” REHM told ISMR at the recent Schweissen & Schneiden exhibition at Essen , Germany .
SIRIUS is designed to simplify the operation of complex digitally controlled processes and offers graphically dynamic and transparent visualisation ( including assist functions ).
“ For DC welding , the 140KHz arc has set the bar for all standard welding tasks . Directionally stable , starting at 5A , it is suitable for sheet thicknesses of 0.2mm or more ,” continued REHM . “ The REHM HYPER . PULS constricts welding current to 17,500Hz , providing much higher energy density in the arc and on the workpiece . The DC balance can be used to set the time for high and low current . The REHM HYPER . PULS is almost silent ,” it added .
According to the manufacturer , the REHM HYPER . SPOT can do tack welds with four times the welding current used in the manual process . All tack welds , it told ISMR , are identical .
“ REHM HYPER . SPOT uses the benefits of the HYPER . PULS : the quick weld pool generation . The INVERTIG i also controls the entire tack-welding process . Once set , the torch only needs to be positioned ; the REHM HYPER . SPOT does the rest ,” commented the manufacturer .

For interval welding , the INVERTIG i can use all welding processes . The combination of interval , HYPER . PULS and HYPER . SPOT delivers clear benefits , especially for welding on tool edges and for repairs . The heat input is targeted to the point in question and can be set according to requirements . The results have so far been matched only with laser welding equipment ,” it continued .
The AC welding process generates a very stable arc that can be set according to user requirements for different tasks . The process removes the oxide layer to deliver a very stable arc . For the AC waveform , the INVERTIG i offers several basic forms including soft sine , hard since , triangle and rectangle . Features include optimised frequency control and AC balance .
REHM ’ s DualWave procedure combines AC arc welding and DC welding . During the AC phase , the aluminium ’ s oxide layer is removed . In the DC phase , DualWave uses the benefits of the DC arc . More heat input in this phase means better weld pool out gassing , explained REHM .
“ The INVERTIG i ’ s high efficiency uses up to 30 % less energy than conventional equipment ,” concluded the manufacturer . n

An eye on coil

Italian coil-processing and bending specialist , Gabella Macchine SpA , will be exhibiting in Hall 8 on stand 8417 at Blechexpo 2023 in Stuttgart , Germany ( 7-10 November 2023 ).
“ This exhibition will give us the opportunity to showcase the latest technological developments in our sheetmetalworking lines . In particular , visitors will be able to see a distinctive Gabella Macchine slitter with automatically positioned heads ,” the family-owned company told ISMR .
“ We can customise systems to the requirements of each customer . This synergy with end users underpins the solutions that will be on display on our stand in Stuttgart ,” it continued .
The company recently installed two customised coil processing solutions to customers in Germany and Portugal . The lines can process thin to high-thickness sheet metal and have been developed with a special focus on slitting and recoiling precision as well as speed . They can handle coils of up to 25 tons .
“ However , the European market also requires rapid solutions for loading and changing lighter coils . Here , the challenge is for high levels of flexibility in small-batch production using a wide range of materials . A variety of coil types can be on standby for this process ,” explained the manufacturer .
This has led the company , over the years , to develop sliding platforms and trolleys , multi-positional rotary decoilers and various types of customised coil-storage systems . n www . gabella . it
