Launch of modular linear stamping tools

Otto Bihler Maschinenfabrik ( BIHLER ) will be presenting its new generation of modular highperformance linear tools for the first time at Blechexpo 2023 ( Hall 6 , Stand 6208 ). The tools can now be used to precision produce linear stamped and formed parts in mass production .
“ The new tool series is designed for high cycle rates of up to 500rpm and large to exceptionally large batch sizes . The tool modules are used on all machines on which the LEANTOOL L250 modules can also be used but preferably on the new , cam-controlled LM 2000-KT linear machine . The modules of the new series feature extremely high rigidity . Even under extreme load situations with forces from above , below and the side , simultaneously and consecutively as well as at varying speeds , the displacement or tilting from tool to machine is max . 0.022mm . This enables constant precision in the forming process . Optimisation loops to compensate for tool and machine capability are no longer necessary ,” commented BIHLER .
In contrast to the LEANTOOL , which is designed for strip thicknesses from 0.3 to 2.0mm and primarily for forming , the new tool modules are designed for strip thicknesses from 0.1 to 1.0mm and for many other processes . These include free forming ;

die forming ; die beading ; roll forming ; bend straightening ; full coining ; hollow coining ; collar drawing ; push-through ; tenon pressing ; cutting and cut-off ( finished part separation ).
“ Due to the new design of the tool frame , the precision-determining offset of the active tool elements is dependent upon the manufacturing tolerance of the EDM machine and is max . 0.01mm . This means that the precision of these modules , which are designed for three directions of movement , is on a par with the most precise , single-acting cutting tools . At the same time , the modules remain an open system with the familiar free accessibility to the active parts and shimming plates of the proven Bihler linear tools . This allows users to respond better to process variations and to troubleshoot problems more easily and quickly ,” continued BIHLER .
The tools can be set up very quickly and with 100 per cent reproducibility via standardised interfaces and zero-point clamping systems with automatic clamping function . As with the LEANTOOL L250 , the complete module is simply set up to minimize machine downtime . Standardisation is currently limited to an interface standard between tool and machine . This enables consistent set-up operations on different machines and a design standard that is always the same . Standardisation will be successively increased during the market launch . The first step will be a design template such as LEANTOOL L250 within the bNX software in Siemens NX . n

KUKA expands its range of AMRs

KUKA has expanded its range of autonomous mobile robots ( AMRs ) with the KMR iisy mobile cobot and KMP 1500P mobile platform .
“ The KMR iisy is a fully integrated combination of cobot and transport platform , while the KMP 1500P is an innovative mobile platform . Optimally equipped for production and storage facilities , these robots provide the ideal smart partners for Industry 4.0 ,” explained robot specialist , KUKA .
The KMR iisy mobile cobot is designed to move quickly and safely through space for flexible use at various workstations in assembly and intralogistics , and as a robot service system . It includes the LBR iisy , with a payload capacity of 11kg or 15kg , and a mobile platform that can carry a supplementary load of up to 200kg .
Low-particle and low-emission characteristics and ESD certification allow the use of the KMR iisy in cleanrooms . Its smartPAD pro smart control operates both cobot and platform , with no need for a second operating device .
The KMP 1500P mobile platform provides
an automation solution for the optimisation of intralogistic processes . It can transport up to 1.5 tons of various materials and workpieces , with a 60mm stroke and positioning accuracy . It can pick goods , supply materials to lines and cells and transport workpieces in process linking .
KUKA ’ s new AMR generation is designed to meet the requirements of Logistics 4.0 with intelligence and flexibility , and to be safe and easy to use . 3D cameras , safety laser scanners and IP class 54 can be installed for the protection of robots , loads and the immediate vicinity .
“ With differential drive and flexible mobility , these mobile robots can handle

any dynamic and complex environment and adapt travel paths autonomously and efficiently . Inductive and intelligent 24 / 7 charging management enables these robots to charge both at a charging station and during the work process . Any required maintenance is easy and quick , with large access hatches on the KMR iisy and easily replaceable control and switching electronics on the KMP 1500P . The new , intelligent KMReS fleet manager greatly simplifies integration for a cost-efficient , safe solution ,” concluded KUKA . n
