Pre-painted metal is produced by adding paint or film coating to strip metals , primarily steel and aluminium , on a continuous basis . This process , called coil coating , is applied continuously on automated lines . The method includes cleaning and chemically pre-treating the metal surface . Before the final product is created , one or both sides of the metal are painted or coated with powders or liquids , which are then dried or bonded with plastic films .

Global coil-coating market
According to analyst , Mordor Intelligence , the coil coatings ’ market size is expected to grow by 4.32 % from 2023 to 2028 .
“ Over the short term , rising demand from the building and construction industry and growing environmental influences , as well as advancing technology , are the major factors driving the market . Conversely , increasing demand for lightweight materials in the automotive industry is expected to hinder market growth . However , increasing demand for fluoropolymer coatings for architectural applications will probably act as an opportunity ,” said the analyst .
“ Asia-Pacific dominated the market in terms of consumption due to the rise in the production and export of pre-coated metal sheets in the region . This was due to the high production of finished steel and high manufacturing of end-user products ,” it added .
According to market research published by Contrive Datum Insights , Europe directly follows the Asia-Pacific region in terms of market size for coil coatings . North America , it confirmed , has the third-largest market share worldwide . China , it added , is possibly the largest producer of coil-coating worldwide .
