FICEP S . p . A . ( Varese , Italy ) has become a leading supplier of structural steel and plate fabrication equipment . Established in 1930 and based in northern Italy , 50km north of Milan and 16km from the border with Switzerland , it focuses on the engineering and manufacturing of machine tools for the metalworking industry .
With 17 sales and service subsidiaries globally , the manufacturer employs 600 people worldwide ( 450 in Italy ). It also runs a manufacturing plant in Bordeaux , France , for stand-alone products destined for the French / Northern African region .
ISMR sat down with its CEO , Ing . Christian Colombo , to discover his views on market and industry sector growth as well as the company ’ s exciting new product , software and digital transformation developments .

FICEP ’ s portfolio of machinery includes steel section and plate fabrication equipment , automated handling and forging systems . The company manufactures a wide range of fabrication machines with options to punch , mark , drill , scribe , machine and shear or thermal cut . Its system simulation software allows it to evaluate potential layouts based on work force requirements , capabilities , throughput and production bottlenecks .
