According to the International Monetary Fund ( IMF ), economic output in advanced economies is projected to return to pre-pandemic trends by 2022 . But most emerging and developing countries will take many more years to recover . This delayed recovery will make it even more difficult to avoid long-term economic scarring — including from job losses , which hit young people , women and informal workers especially hard .
The IMF also highlights huge opportunities from the green transition : the shift to renewables , new electricity networks , energy efficiency and low carbon mobility . If we do this with a combination of supply policies , it says , global GDP could be raised by about two per cent this decade and create 30 million new jobs .
In this issue of ISMR , which will be distributed at the Blechexpo exhibition in Germany , we quiz various sheet metal machine tool manufacturers around the world on their responses to the COVID-19 challenge , as well as their views on markets , industry trends and product development .
