Mobile manual metal arc welding( MMA) innovation
With its Ignis Battery, Fronius brings a new dimension of independence to welding. The battery-operated version of the Fronius Ignis is designed for manual metal arcwelding( MMA) welding, even without a mains connection. With a weight of 12kg( without battery charger) and a compact, robust housing, it has been built to withstand adverse conditions( from rain to dust and from heat to cold). In addition to voltage monitoring, a battery management system watches over the charging process and ensures protection against overcharging and deep discharge.
“ The Ignis battery is available in the power category up to 150 A and combines modern welding electronics with intelligent battery technology. It is suitable for manual metal arc welding as well as for mobile TIG welding. Welding is possible with all types of electrodes— rutile, basic or CEL,” said the welding specialist.
“ The integrated, highperformance, lithium-ion battery( LiFePO4) with 750Wh enables welding of up to 31 electrodes( 2.5mm) or up to 30 minutes of TIG welding at 100 A with just one battery charge. This is usually sufficient for the whole assembly operation. If not, the quick-charge function ensures 80 % battery power in just 40 minutes and a full charge in 60 minutes,” added Fronius.
In hybrid mode, welding and charging from the grid can be carried out simultaneously, which further extends the operating time. The battery features an integrated power reserve.
“ If the Ignis Battery is used in generatorpowered operation, a small 2 kVA generator is sufficient to provide the required welding power and arc quality. This makes transportation to the workplace easier and reduces noise pollution in the working environment,” concluded Fronius,
MMA functions such as HotStart and SoftStart ensure high ignition properties for rutile, basic or CEL electrodes. TrackingArc facilitates precise re-ignition of the arc at 8 A. Anti-stick prevents unwanted sticking of the electrode and saves time and material. MMA Pulse is particularly effective for out-of-position welding. Technologies for TIG welding include TIG Pulse and Comfort Stop. n

Folding in the spotlight
The Schröder Group showcased its MAK 4 Evolution UD sheet metal folder, with a high degree of automation( without robots) due to its up-and-down folding beam, Advanced Handling System( AHS) and toolchanger, at Blechexpo 2025 in Stuttgart this October. It also presented the tapered bending function on the PowerBend Multi motorised folding machine. With its adjustable stop, it can be used to produce profiles that can be inserted into one another, for example.
“ Our 134 / 15 / 2mm motorised slipbending roll, known for its high repeat accuracy, and the PowerBend Professional folder were also on display. The latter featured a new hemming function: hollow folds can now be produced in a single step with the folding beam— eliminating the need for an additional step with the clamping beam,” said the folding specialist.

“ With an opening height of 850mm on the clamping beam, our PowerBend Industrial can process complex profiles using tools of up to 400mm. The PDC 3200 × 3.0mm motorised shear with automatic blade gap calculation can cut even thin sheets with virtually no burrs,” it added.
To enable the Schröder Group’ s trainees to experience Blechexpo 2025 up close, they travelled to Stuttgart by bus with their instructors— a welcome opportunity to experience modern sheet metal processing live at the trade show.
The Schröder Group will exhibit at DACH + HOLZ International in Cologne, Germany( from 24-27 February 2026), in Hall 8( stand 8.326).
